Maybe ASP is only working right on your Linux.

All other programs including PSP work perfectly on my Windows 7.

Wouldn't it be sad if everone elses Windows 7 computer is also "hosed"?

Could there be any value, or harm in having some Windows 7 people give it a try?

Anyway I know how to work around long standing Bibble/ASP flaws. So it won't mean much to me.

Given the topic "a PSP guide to loving ASP" I thought I would chip in on the subject of setting and resetting settings to default.

I have been experimenting with the "Save as RAW default..." which creates the file "DefaultRaw.xmp" that is used whenever a new RAW Image is seen in ASP (if it is present).
I created this file by using the right-click Settings Option "Save as RAW default..." and checking the detailed settings I wanted, having first loaded a RAW Image and set-up the basic settings I wanted.
In my example, I set AutoLevel at 0.002 (rather than the default of 0.2), Sharpening, Noise Reduction, enabled Crop Fit and Lens Correction and set the Star Rating and Labels/Flags I desired for all RAW files.

This Default RAW set-up works fine for me, indeed 'I love it' and at any stage I can right-click either "Apply Initial Settings" or "Apply Default Settings" (Ctrl+R) to reset everything back, apart from Metadata (as afx points out).

I have two cameras, so I went on to create two more files using right-click "Save as Camera Default..." one for my Canon and one for my Olympus. This camera-specific file e.g. "DefaultRawCanon_Canon_EOS_550D.xmp" is used by ASP instead of "DefaultRaw.xmp" and so has to include everything in that. It is best created by loading a RAW Image, making any alterations and then saving as Camera Default.

In my case the Canon is Cropped 3:2 whereas the Olympus is 4:3 so I included this, together with some appropriate Metadata defaults such as my Copyright. I love this camera specific aspect of ASP. Again Ctrl+R at any stage resets ASP to the Camera Defaults for any Image.

I had hoped to force ASP to recognise my Olympus Lens (by telling it that it is another similar calibrated one) but even though I have put the Metadata Lens in the Camera Default it is not loaded initially, but only when I press Ctrl+R.

For fear of frightening anyone I will stop there. Any questions?

My prime imaging machine runs W7 pro 64 bit. Linux is run on my laptops when I am on the road (which is more time than the time spent at home on the big box).

You are the only one reporting this keyboard/menu discrepancy which is a strong indication that this is isolated to your box.

Further indication is your statement about selective copy not popping up a window to choose what to copy...

That sounds like AS already has seen the file (it as an XMP, DB or cache entry) so you need CTRL-R to force it to got to the defaults.

No. That is what I thought at first but I tested it quite carefully with a brand new file.

I was just thinking of doing so!
The two relevant lines are:-
bopt:profilelens="Micro 4/3 Zuiko Digital 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 ED"

Under Lens Correction and Metadata, the word 'Lens' appears until I click Ctrl+R

Strange. Guess my first test was flawed.
I can confirm your observation. The lens is not picked up by the default in contrast to the other settings.
Time for a bug report.

Any suggestions for commenting my default file?
I intend to edit it from now on, rather than re-create it from scratch and I want to remember what I have done in years to come

No, it never occurred to me to play with comments in there... my defaults are rather slim.
If standard XMP comments don't work, I do not think there is a facility for that.

There is way too much stuff in there in my eyes.

For example, do you really need NN + Raw Noise on all images? That sensor is not that bad is it?
And using WS by default without turning off regular sharpening can lead to rather nasty artifacts.
Why are all images tagged with a yellow label and a star by default? Shouldn't that happen after initial judgment?
Why is crop enabled by default when the aspect ratio fits the sensor anyway? Why not just set the aspect ratio as a default but leave it disabled?

These are all defaults or starting points to be switched off if desired.
The NN + Raw Noise is an experiment as a 'starting point' for Noise Reduction - I plan to edit it later particularly once I know if I will Register NN. Does NN + Raw Noise do any harm?
I am still exploring Sharpening, especially as I have lost my default sharpening in Canon and my HPS in PSP. I shall probably try WS2 instead. I keep reading that Sharpening is different in ASP from Bibble.
Yellow label and one star? That is my 'minimum' default for Raw Images from which I work towards 5 stars and a different label for JPGs and other output files.
What's wrong with my Crop parameters? How do you set Crop Fit by default?
