For raw files the AS version is preferred. For TIFFs I think the standalone version is better (I use it to clean up my slide scans).
df wrote:afx, are you implying that all camera profiles ship with ASP? If so, what about the cameras that ASP supports that NN doesn't have a profile for? Or is it all just rather generic? Sorry, but that's not in TFM.
Every camera supported by AS should have associated NN profiles (as NN in AS runs quite differently, the profiles from standalone NN will not work). If you find one without a profile that is a bug.
I thought you had an NN license? Then you should see something like "AfterShot Pro Profile" in the NN registered tab...

I downloaded the profiles from the NN web site for my Canon 7D and, if I understand their names properly, there is one for every ISO setting except 12800. Why they would not have included a file for every possible ISO setting puzzles me. Since 12800 is available in the camera I would have thought they would have had a file for that and, given how much noise there is, using the 6400 file for 12800 may not be a good thing to do.

Are you saying that there are two different sets of downloadable profiles from NN, one for the ASP version and one for the standalone version? Or are you saying that anything you create yourself with the standalone version will not work with the ASP version?
Noise Ninja works fine for me. I have NN stand alone installed on my computer since 2009 and used with Bibble 5. I installed ASP when it became available and NN was automatically set up and I have used it without problems. It recognizes the ASP profile for my camera, which I presume was put there when I installed ASP. See screen shot.

There are no downloadable profiles for NN in AS. They all are shipped with AS for the cameras supported by AS.
Profiles created with the standalone version will not work in AS. You have to create them in AS.

Many cameras don't have their own NN profile in Bibble/ASP, they just use an earlier model's profile (even if the earlier model had a totally different sensor).
claudermilk wrote:S+P = "Salt & Pepper" It reduces the pixel noise that looks just like that. IMHO, it's even more critical in ASP than in B5; same goes for WS. I'm not sure why it's been deprecated, I completely disagree there.
Depreciated where???
cheers

Not in front of the imaging box right now, but one of the Wavelt plugins has moved S+P to it's own tab & noted that it's deprecated. It seems the S&P effect is stronger in ASP, thus even more needed now. I'm not stopping using it.
also, its called "s+p" in the UI to avoid putting it on a own line and waste more precious vertical space, but it got a mouse over hint: "Salt and Pepper noise removal" explaining what i does.

If you got any immediate problems with my plugins, don't by shy on contact me on GoogleTalk.
Drifting off topic here but does anyone else use the sketch feature of Wavelet Denoise?
If you turn on edge preview and then export to tif/jpeg .... guess what?
NoiseNinja apparently has both 8 bit and 16 bit plugins. Does anyone know if the registered Noise Ninja functionality in ASP is 8 bit or 16 bit? Just curious.

Well, I don't really know and that is why I asked.
Since I do not have the Registered NN functionality active I don't really know if it runs as part of ASP or as a separate process. I assume the former but thought I should ask before I spent the money for the functionality. It is certainly possible for 16 bit photo software to run 8 bit plugins or 16 bit plugins as 8 bit. For example, the Sagelight editor offers to run my 16 bit Topaz plugins as 8 bit if I wish (I don't wish to do so).
I assume your reply means that the functionality runs as base functionality and that it is 16 bit.
