Registered Noise Ninja
Is the extra functionality that comes with purchasing a Noise Ninja license and activating the Registered functionality in ASP worth the cost? Or is the plain vanilla Noise Ninja that comes with ASP enough of the full functionality that buying the license is not necessary?
Because the Registered functionality with ASP did not come with the trial I do not know if it is worth paying the extra $35 for the stand-alone version. I generally don't shoot over ISO 800 but have found myself shooting as high as 6400 upon emergencies (and once at 12800 but it was not pretty). I already have Topaz DeNoise but I cannot use that directly in ASP. I can, of course, create an output tiff, use DeNoise and then go back to ASP but that seems like a lot of here-and-there and not worth the cost of the NN stand-alone provided the extra functionality is worth while.
Thanks.

There is also the Plugin for ASP, Wavelet Denoise check it out and see if it does the job for you.

Re: Registered Noise Ninja
I posted a thread today about upgrading Noise Ninja. After I received answers on the thread I gave Wavelet Denoise a shot (forgot I had it installed, and I LOVE wavelet sharpen). Sure enough, it's an amazing plugin and fits my needs perfectly.Denis de Gannes wrote:There is also the Plugin for ASP, Wavelet Denoise check it out and see if it does the job for you.

If you aren't happy with the basic version in ASP you probably won't be happy with the registered version either.MikeFromMesa wrote:Is the extra functionality that comes with purchasing a Noise Ninja license and activating the Registered functionality in ASP worth the cost?
If you like the basic thing and just wish you could tune it a little more, spring for the $34.95
Otherwise Wavelet Denoise...

Re: Registered Noise Ninja
If you buy Noise Ninja, just get the cheapest version as that license will active the full version in ASP.
Thanks.

Re: Registered Noise Ninja
so far I did not really check the options which would be available within ASP on the registered NN, but assume that they compare to the options/features/results which can be achieved using NN stand-alone .... and this product can be tested in a trial version.B4b5 wrote:If you aren't happy with the basic version in ASP you probably won't be happy with the registered version either.MikeFromMesa wrote:Is the extra functionality that comes with purchasing a Noise Ninja license and activating the Registered functionality in ASP worth the cost?

Just do so and find out if the additional control is worth to get the license or not.
And please, if you do some tests ... maybe you can share the results here ?!
I still want to do some tests in that area ... but since there´s no pressure ... I skip it.
cheers

I personally love to use NN for luma noise and WD for chroma noise. IMHO they play well together.

Re: Registered Noise Ninja
Disagree. I mostly set chroma strength to 10 and luma strength to something between 1 and 5. IMHO it's the luma you need to dial back and for that you need the registered version.B4b5 wrote:If you aren't happy with the basic version in ASP you probably won't be happy with the registered version either.

According to the tool tip prompts on the screen, "Noise Ninja Standard" has two controls:ferdinand-paris wrote:Disagree. Re: Registered Noise Ninja
hannes, i don't really have defaults for that
for web sized images i just flick on NN anyways, as it makes no real difference when scaled down to 900x600
for larger ones i usually turn NN chroma to 0 and WD chroma up until i'm satisfied.
sorry for not being any help, i have no real denoising workflow :-/

Re: Registered Noise Ninja
I seem to remember from old forums that Chroma Strength in non-registered NN is always set to 10, so you can control Luma only.Tadjio wrote:According to the tool tip prompts on the screen, "Noise Ninja Standard" has two controls:ferdinand-paris wrote:Disagree. I have discovered something interesting about Noise Ninja (Standard).thufor wrote:I seem to remember from old forums that Chroma Strength in non-registered NN is always set to 10, so you can control Luma only.Tadjio wrote:According to the tool tip prompts on the screen, "Noise Ninja Standard" has two controls:ferdinand-paris wrote:I mostly set chroma strength to 10 and luma strength to something between 1 and 5.

If you set NN and then save the Default Raw file, it contains the following:
Code: Select all
bopt:bnn_enabled="true"
bopt:bnn_lstrength="2"
bopt:bnn_lsmooth="10"
bopt:bnn_lcontrast="10"
bopt:bnn_cstrength="10"
bopt:bnn_csmooth="10"
bopt:bnn_ccontrast="10"
This implies it should be possible to adjust the Chroma Defaults, or even set up Presets, without Registering NN.

Re: Registered Noise Ninja
Now that is something to try! And I have plenty of noisy photos to try it on.I had set the Luma Strength to 2 but it is evident that the Chroma parameters are also set.
This implies it should be possible to adjust the Chroma Defaults, or even set up Presets, without Registering NN.
Thanks for investigating and posting this.

I have tried this for about a year ago with bibble5, settings were ignored.MikeFromMesa wrote:Now that is something to try! And I have plenty of noisy photos to try it on.I had set the Luma Strength to 2 but it is evident that the Chroma parameters are also set.

And if not ignored in ASP, you can bet this "leak" will be "fixed".
