Noise Ninja Upgrade
Which version do you buy to upgrade to the registered version of Noise Ninja in AfterShot? I took a look at Noise Ninja's site, and it is unclear to me which version activates it for AfterShot.

Re: Noise Ninja Upgrade
Get any plugin license or a standalone, it really does not matter for AfterShot.

As the two already answered, here's the proof.
They just haven't found out that Bibble is now ASP

Re: Noise Ninja Upgrade
But is it worth buying? Is the Registered Noise Ninja functionality significantly better than the included Noise Ninja functionality? Or is the extra functionality just not worth the money?

Re: Noise Ninja Upgrade
With the registered version you get seperate controls for Luma and Chroma with sliders for Strength , Contrast and Smooth for each.
For me it was worth it.

Re: Noise Ninja Upgrade
How does it compare against the Wavelet Denoise plugin?
As much as I love the Wavelet Sharpen & Denoise plugins, so far I'm having a little trouble getting as good results from the ASP versions that I did from the B5 versions. I'm thinking about unlocking the NN one as the basic tool seems to do a decent job to start with.

Re: Noise Ninja Upgrade
I do not like noise ninja. It does slightly better job on skies, and areas without fine texture, and results in slightly more uniform residual noise than WaveletDenoise. But on the other hand, is very heavy on chroma channel. If you have foliage or other small objects, like autumn leaves, it significantly "blurs" chroma channel. You are definitely loosing vibrant colours on such small details. This effect is much more pronounced in comparison with Wavelet denoise.
It seems to me that even small details (mostly luma) are smashed quicker than by wavelet denoise, even with smaller luma denoise amounts.
No type of finer control in noise ninja is able to solve this problem.
I have repeatedly reported bugs, colour shifts which NN causes in the age of Bibble 5, but nothing changed.
Maybe on other cameras you get different results, but nothing changed even in ASP. On D7000 the effect is just marginally weaker.
Small splashes of water which shoud be white gain very visible purple colour. I wanted to post a link to my bugreport on Bibble5 forum here, but it seems it is not available now, so maybe later.
(on D300 profile in Bibble 5 you get distinct purple cast on denoised areas. You can find my post about pink waterfall.)
Fortunately, we have WaveletDenoise. I am quite satisfied with the results.

Andy Salay

Update: Bibble5 forums seems online now, so here is the link: Noise Ninja sores - should I be satisfied with this result?

Re: Noise Ninja Upgrade
Thanks. I guess I'll save my $35 and re-climb the learning curve for Wavelet Denoise. I tend to have a lot of fine details along with the noise--a challenging tightrope to walk.
