Re: importing images
I think the Brand / Model "MyCamera" is not yet supported.
You may want to provide some more information about the Cam and how you import your images right now.

Re: importing images
If it supports mass storage mode, plug it in and run the download queue on the mount point/drive.
if not, use the downloader provided by Canon.
Or instead of wasting camera battery and suffering slow downloads, get a decent card reader and use that.
cheers

Charles:
Perhaps what is missing here is that what you need to do is download your photos into a directory (folder) on you computer using any of the ways afx mentions. Once there, the photos are available to be worked on by ASP or any other application, such as Picasa or whatever you have been using. You do not import into the application.

The way I do it might be a little primitive but easy to manage.afx wrote: Or instead of wasting camera battery and suffering slow downloads, get a decent card reader and use that.

I take the SD card out of the camera and plug it directly into my computer.
Then using nothing more than Windows Explorer navigate to the SD card and copy the files to some useful folder.
It's probably a bad idea to develope the image right on the card because the camera won't know what to do with the .xmp
When finished I put the card back in the camera - first thing I do is delete all images and I'm ready to start over.

Quite a waste of time in my eyesB4b5 wrote:The way I do it might be a little primitive but easy to manage.
Using a download queue all of that becomes much easier, no need to create a folder or rename files explicitly. The queue does it all for you.I take the SD card out of the camera and plug it directly into my computer.

Well, who would do that????It's probably a bad idea to develope the image right on the card because the camera won't know what to do with the .xmp

The only thing I do differently is format rather than delete. I believe it leaves the card in a better state.

Re: importing images
I'm not sure if this is what you are looking for but AfterShot has a Import feature that will add your photos to a catalog. You can visit http://pnoy.me/lN for more information.

Re: importing images
Hi,
I think charles45 (just like me) missing a feature existed in B5: Move/Copy files while importing into a catalog.
It was a great thing, not needed to any other program just for rename, assign them in to the right folder structure, and import to a catalog...
Now with AS you HAVE to rename, arrange, store in a file system your RAW photos before you can start to develop them... :(
Right now in AS the "catalog" is just a joke - for those who have not using other programs for catalogue - it is pretty useless.

The only difference between B5 and ASP is that catalogues only work by reference; sure as hell you can still develop images without using a catalogue!Zrubi wrote:Hi,

Re: importing images
the download queue does work, but lordy is it SLLOOOOOWWW
I use ImageIngester which tags, copies and create backups faster than B5 would get half way through the first copy.
ImageIngester also tracks card usage, customer and job names, auto creates folders and tags based on that data, which neither B5 or ASP will do
You want a path like /Work/2012/customername/jobname/card/daydate/image<seq>.ext - no problem.
ASP download queue doesn't even come close.

Re: importing images
I think this is a little bit misleading to new AS users. While I agree that there are more advanced solutions available, AS can very well auto create folders and file names based on dates, exif, IPTC, metadata, sequences and jobname.ashmoore wrote:... job names, auto creates folders and tags based on that data, which neither B5 or ASP will do
The list of possibilities can be found here:

Re: importing images
Yeah. But if you NEED the catalogue feature as I did in B5 you do not want any other program just to download, and rename files...ogrizzo wrote: The only difference between B5 and ASP is that catalogues only work by reference; sure as hell you can still develop images without using a catalogue!
Download queue is originally not designed for this task...
Referenced catalogue is a tricky thing and if it will be the ONLY catalogue type it's bring some question:
- what if I put some new files into the file structure?
I have to remember for all the new files and import them?? Or just reimport the whole directory structure??? Not sounds to a real solution at all! - what if the filesystem and the database is out of sync?
It WILL happen frequently for sure, because You HAVE to poke the files with other software.
But me - and the others around there - who were happy (okay there was also a lot of things to improve) with B5 catalogues... what can we do?
Keeping B5 for a while.
