Aspect Ratio 4:3 - User defined ratio

Post by Rick H »

Hi All,

When corverting an AVI widescreen movie with DVD Movie Factory 3 Se
the movie is stretched to a 4:3 ratio. If possible how can I change the frame size in the disc template manager to a user defined ratio, to keep the movie from stretching out?
Any help would be appreciated!...

Have you enabled the advanced settings? When you edit the project properties, I believe there is something in there to enable widescreen. Don't know if it works with the SE version of DMF3 though.

I have both 2.0 and 3.0, and have noticed that the optional "custom" aspect ratio settings have been "grayed" out, and seem to be non-functional. I recently shot a wedding in 16:9 widescreen format, and am currently having a difficult time exporting the video in the correct format, since it only has an scale option of the normal 4:3 ratio (720x480). If you find a patch or solution, please let me know, too. Thanks.

Did you enable the "Advanced" option for DMF? Here's how.

Close DVD Movie Fatory
1. I clicked MY COMPUTER;
2. I clicked my C: drive;
3. I clicked the DOCUMENTS & SETTINGS folder;
4. I clicked the ALL USERS folder;
5. I clicked TOOLS > FOLDER OPTIONS and then clicked the VIEW tab to
make sure Windows would show HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS;
6. I clicked the APPLICATION DATA folder;
7. I clicked the ULEAD SYSTEMS folder;
8. I clicked the ULEAD DVD MOVIEFACTORY folder;
9. I clicked the 2.01 or 3.0 folder;
10. I opened the "DVDMF.INI" file with notepad and then typed ADVANCE=1 under the [VIODRIVER] heading;
11. I saved the i-n-i file;
12. Start Ulead DVD MovieFactory.

Open Project Properties. (Little gear icon on the bottom in DMF3)
Click "Change MPEG Settings" and select "Customize"
You should see an "Advanced" button on the compression tab. Select it.
Select the "VideoSettings" tab and under "Aspect ratio" is 16:9 Display.

I tried it on DMF3 with both DVD and SVCD settings and I had the option to select 16:9. The only time it was grayed out was with VCD disk format.

If this doesn't work for you, hopefully someone else will know more or you should contact tech support.

phd: I just checked the .ini files for both MF2 and MF3, and added the advance=1 like you suggested. I opened MF2 and noticed that the "User defined" and the "Keep aspecct ratio" are still both grayed out, so that did not help any. I opened MF3, and just noticed that it does not even contain these options. Maybe it was a flaw in 2.0, and they deleted it from 3.0? I'll check for updates again, and try installing them to see if this helps. Thanks.

Perhaps its not an option in the SE edition? They are usually crippled in some manner.

I have the DMF2LE, DMF2 full and DMF3DC versions.

Is there anyone out there who has tried enabling the Advanced options and widescreen with the SE versions?

Hmmm... I thought I had the full version. It doesn't say that it is the SE version anywhere, and I have already discarded the box a while back. The help info gives this info:

Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2.12.1000.0100
Ulead DVD MovieFactory 3 Disc Creator

Would it not say if it was an SE version or something other?

I downloaded and installed the most recent updates they have on their site, and it did not affect anything. :(

I am currently looking into just buying the DVD Workshop program, which claims it definitely handles 16:9 widescreen. The only other thing I would like Ulead to incorporate into the Workshop is Sonic's MyDVD "Fit to DVD" option. This way, it will automatically adjust the compression depending upon the length of the video. I hate rendering and converting everything in MF2/MF3 only to find out that I have "insufficient space". I then have to go back and shorten my original video, and redo all the menus and stuff. It's a big waste of time. :x

I would assume if you got it in a box and it did not come with a capture card or a firewire card it is the full version. I believe on the splash screen, it would say if it was an special version.

I'm kind of puzzled why it would be ghosted. Hopefully someone else has the answer.

Regarding "fit to DVD" If you render to a folder on your hard drive and use a freeware program called "DVD Shrink" it will resize it automatically.
