Studio 8 will not open

Post by girly »

Hi

I hope someone can help.

I have Version 8 which until 2-3 weeks ago was working ok. Now the splash screen opens and I get a message saying
ULead system has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling several times and the techy people just tell me to check my system requirements - which are ok as I haven't changed anything.

I bought Version 9 to see if this solved the problem but it doesn't so now I have a program which won't work.

Someone suggested there may be a conflict with video codecs on my PC but don't really understand which ones I have and which are used by ULead. Even so I haven't changed anything since before the program was working.

I would be grateful for any help/suggestions.

Apart from reformatting and starting again which is a bit drastic I am at a loss.

You've done the uninstall and reinstall, which is the obvious and likeliest thing to fix the problem, so I'm going have some guesses

Have you installed any other video editing or video playing software recently?

Are your graphics & firewire cards seated properly?

Apart from VStudio 8&9 have you installed anything else by Ulead recently?

Did you "upgrade" using the upgrade option to Version 9 or did you install Version 9 from fresh?

If you did upgrade via a download, once installed did you do the "Smart download" option as well?

Hi

Thanks for reply

In answer to questions:

I have Sonic MYDVD which I had before ULead and they both worked ok

As far as I know the graphics/firewire cards areconnected ok

I have no other products by ULead (this has put me off)

I upgraded to Version 9 (upgrade option) but that won't open either, I get same message so I haven't done smart download.

Since ULead stopped working I have got Pinnacle Studio 9 as I have uninstalled ULead - but I prefer ULead as it's not as complicated and in Pinnacle you have to buy all the extras (effects etc)

I tried Pinnacle before Ulead, but had problems with that, hence I now use Ulead

I wouldn't think Sonic MYDVD would cause any problems, I think I have that on my Pc somewhere too.

When you say "splash screen" is that the screen with the cheesey woman? If so after you upgraded to V9 did you get the new cheesey smiley womans face during bootup or was it the V8 woman still?

Hi

I'm not sure I think it was the V9 cheesy woman.

I haven't tried installing V9 again as well as V8 if you know what I mean, just V8 on it's own because if that version won't work neither will the the other.

Please contact Ulead Tech support (again) so they can give you clean reinstallation instructions so both VS8 and VS9 can work properly.

UL Tech Support seem very reluctant to give me any info regarding clean uninstall. I've asked them again and their answer was (again) to check system requirements which I've replied I've done this numerous times.
Does anyone know how to do clean uninstall for V8/9 thanks

Hi girly,
what OS are you using? If you are using XP or ME you can do use the System Restore app. Just go to a point in restore before you encountered VS not launching.

Good luck,

Hi erock

Thanks anyway

Hi Girly
Have you tried removing some of the folders left over after un-install.

After uninstalling VS 8 there are a few folders left that may be removed.

I have removed these in the past and re-installed with no problems.

Provided that VS 8 is the only ulead product, you should be able to uninstall and then search for all ulead / video studio / files remaining and delete them.( thjs I have Done )

Try this link first

http://www.ulead.com/tech/vs/vs80faq.htm

last question under Installation/ Download

The folders I remove were:-

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Ulead Systems

C:\Documents and Settings\’User Name’\Application Data\Ulead Systems

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Ulead Systems

C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems

I also removed all Smart Sound folders to allow full VS 8 installation.

Thanks Trevor

I'll try the suggestions because I'm totally fed up with this issue.

I'll let you know if it works, surely as you're from Leeds (as I am) it will work!!!

Hi

I've tried all the suggestions and reinstalled V8 and the upgrade V9 but unfortunately it still will not open. I get the Wizard page and then the error message. I think it's a lost cause becasue I've ben trying for 2 months to find a solution apart from reformatting the drive which is a bit drastic I think there must be a conflict with something else.

Thanks anyway
