X4 - Opening Manage tab closes all open images in Editor
If I work in Edit mode all the time I can open as many pictures as I like from the Organizer and have them all open at the same time. If I return to the Organizer and open another image, the ones already open are not affected. However if I go to the Manager tab (which only seems to be the Organizer on a separate page) to select an image I have to close any and all items already open in the editor. Surely this cannot be intended behaviour. In X3 it was possible to open images in the Organizer which was on a separate page and then return to it and open others without the original ones closing so why can't we do this in X4? The Manager does allow multiple images to be selected and opened at the same time but these are still closed if at any time you return to the Manager. Is there any way of stopping this behaviour?
Update: I have now read a few posts about this problem and indeed it is not possible to switch between Edit and Manage modes without closing any images you have open for editing. The general feeling seems to be that this is not a problem as the Organizer (File manager) is available in Edit mode anyway so there is no need to go to the Manage tab. However I would disagree with this as some of my folders contain large numbers of images and it is much easier to browse through them using Manager in thumbnail mode as you can see far more images at once than with the Organizer in Edit mode. Also I find that Organizer gets in the way in Edit mode and would much prefer to switch back and forth to the Manager as was possible in X3.
Even if this problem does not affect everyone it is still difficult to understand why Corel would insist that images in the Editor are closed before switching to Manage mode. I cannot personally think of one reason why this would be preferable. Additionally the Organizer in Edit mode does not appear to have any way of resizing the thumbnails to optimize the number viewable at any one time.

I just noticed this change, and I must say it's pretty infuriating if you're not expecting it. And when you are expecting it, it's still quite annoying. What was wrong with the old way of doing it? Is this new version meant for older smaller computers than the old one??

Re: X4 - Opening Manage tab closes all open images in Editor
This is even worse than I thought. I just loaded two dozen pictures into the editor, then went back to the browser and switched it to another folder. My intent was to refer to the pictures that were already in one folder so I could know which ones I'd loaded from the other might be redundant. But when I go back to the editor, it unloads everything. Note that in the new folder, I never selected anything for editing! It just randomly selected some first picture there, and decided that's the one I wanted to edit. This was so surprising that I went through the whole process again just to see if it was really going to do that twice. It did.

You know, people complained so much about this problem that Corel was nice enough to fix it in X5. True this is unhelpful for X4 people but rest assured Corel heard and responded. Just not in a way that helps everyone.
I can agree that the organizer takes up room in the editor but if I turn it off or auto-hide the palette the room isn't really an issue since I won't use the organizer until I need an image. If I turn it off then its retrievable with a simple key press. Honestly, moving to Manage Mode was always so much slower I couldn't stand it.

Re: X4 - Opening Manage tab closes all open images in Editor
I had to get PSP as software I had been sent needed it to be modified to suit my requirements. BUT, BUT, BUT, now the bloody programme opens ALL my pictures, not just the ones I want it too.
Quick solution, or do I just write the purchase price off and delete the programme?
I think this is the most annoying piece of software I have ever used, and the footprint, when running, hits every part of the system.
Is it easier just to delete it and try and find another compatible software that will work wiith multi-level decal designing?
Hope you can help, and I don't want to waste time doing it.
Thanks in advance.

X4 is a very 'old' version. So I wonder where you purchased it from? You may not find a lot of help from current users. But no one can help you unless you ask specific questions.
I'm sure it's not opening all your images because earlier versions had limits on how many images you could open.
regards

Re: X4 - Opening Manage tab closes all open images in Editor
I got 9 not X4
But I have decided to delete the software and do without the zip file I needed to adapt for my purposes. Indeed I will post on my Facebook page just how unsuitable this software is. It is working almost like a virus. I never gave Corel the right to take away my freedom of choice over how I open my files on my computer. And there is NO TOPIC covering this in the Help section. I don't consider that very ethical at all.

What do you mean by "do without the zip file I needed to adapt for my purposes."? Did you do something to try to adapt how PSP works? If so, that is not PSP's problem. Could you provide more detail about adapting for your purpose?SoggyBoot wrote:I got 9 not X4

Are you saying when you double click on an image file that PSP is automatically launched to open the image? If so, it sounds like you inadvertently set PSP as your default program for opening images and you will need to change it back to your preferred program.SoggyBoot wrote:BUT, BUT, BUT, now the bloody programme opens ALL my pictures, not just the ones I want it too.

Re: X4 - Opening Manage tab closes all open images in Editor
If Kathy has interpreted what you are saying correctly, then yes, it sounds like you have let PSP become associated with all image files. You will have to set which file types you want it to open as default program and set your other program(s) to open whatever file types you want them to open.
