Hi everyone,
I have researched in the Bibble forums and also read the manual. I see that this question has come up numerous times but I couldn't find a clear answer. What information do I lose when I lose my catalog (due to corruption, crash, etc)? If I understood correctly, ASP writes file versions, edit settings, layers, ratings, flags, etc into XMP files _except_ for the edit history for each individual file version. So if I lose my catalog, the only thing that I should lose is the edit history per version and a few minutes of rebuilding everything from the XMP files, but nothing else. Is that right?
The reason I'm asking is that all my pictures are on a network server with several automatic stages of internal and external backup. Ideally, I could also place my catalog there but ASP was really slow when the catalog had to be accessed via network. So I'm thinking about keeping my catalog local, since I have ASP write XMP files automatically. Due to bad experiences with hard drive and software crashes, I'm a bit cautious.

As long as ASP is configured wo write .xmps, too, i think all you lose is the edit history, as mentioned. But maybe afx knows better

Thanks for the tips. I'll place my catalog back into a local folder. Should it ever come to a crash, I can sacrifice the edit history.

That is what backups are for. You ARE backing up your image files, aren't you?
Just add the catalog files to it.
