Chapters in VideoStudio4

Post by kafka »

I am currently trying out the trial version of VideoStudio4. Each step takes me forever even when I follow the online manual. My current difficulty is that I have added chapters (but not cues, whatever they are) in the appropriate places on the timeline. When I get to the create DVD stage the menu I select gives me a main menu and another menu which shows (along the bottom) Chapter 01, Chapter 02 and so on rather than the names I assigned to the chapters. I have followed the manual carefully but am obviously missing something.

After running the de-shaker the video often contains a shimmering bar on one of the four sides of the screen. I am hoping this won't be there if and when I finally burn a DVD.

Unfortunately there is a programming error in VideoStudio - call it a bug if you like (seems to make a lot of people happy to say that) - which does not carry chapter names through from the editing section to the create disc section - there are two possible workarounds - one is to wait to create the chapters in the burn module and they will then stick while burning the DVD - OR - two , and this is what you need to do now, RIGHT click over the 'Chapter01' name and from the pop-out choose 'Edit' and re-type your chapter title.

Thanks for that. I still have problems. When creating the menu I can only get at the top menu. How do I edit the submenu as you suggest (i.e. replace Chapter o1 with the chapter name)?

When in the Create Disc Module on screen Number 2 (Menu and Preview) where you can see the menu - underneath the preview screen is a drop down - by default showing 'Main Menu' - use that to select other menu pages including the one with the chapter names on.

Thanks Brian. I managed to create the chapters (a very fiddly task, placing those tiny green triangles in the right place) and eventually burned the project to a DVD. What a disappointment! First of all, it took ages to move down the menu from one chapter to the next and just as long for the chapter to begin. Secondly, I had spent considerable time stabilising (de-shaking) my video but when it played the picture shimmered to the point that it was virtually unwatchable. The video throughout was jerky (as though it was showing one frame after another as fast as it could). I don't know how relevant it is that I converted my original MP4 clips to MP2 due to problems with audio/video synchronisation). I may have another go again with the MP4 clips.

Further to my last post, I burned a second DVD (my Paris stay) using the original MP4 video rather than converting it to MP2. To my pleasant surprise the audio and video were perfectly synchronised. In my first attempt (using MP2) Istabilised the video and, as reported earlier, found that the resulting movie was very jerky and shimmery. This time I didn't utilise the stabiliser and the jerkiness and shimmering were absent. Unfortunately I must be a very unsteady cameraman as the unstabilised video bounces around a bit. For my next attempt I will make a DVD using my MP4 video and applying the stabiliser in the hope (probably misplaced) that the problem was related to my use of MP2.

As promised, I burned a DVD using my original MP4 video. With test 1 I created and burned the DVD with menus, etc. but no stabilisation. The final result was very good but rather wobbly. In test 2 I stabilised the video first then created menus, etc. and burned the DVD. The result would have been perfect except for the shimmering bars which appeared at times at the edges of the screen. Perhaps the shimmering occurs when the stabiliser has trouble with the degree of shakiness.

A possible solution to your problem is to use the zoom tool and zoom in just a little so that the shimmering edges go off screen
