Is VideoStudio 9 compatible with the 550pro chipset?

Post by justinluck »

Hi,

I have a Powercolor Theater 550pro capture card. I would like to use VideoStudio 9 with this card, but have not been successful in doing so. I am using the latest chipset drivers that were released this month by ATI.

When I try capturing, it will start to record for a couple seconds and then stop, saying that it did not receive any input. But this is not correct because those few seconds are recorded and do play back fine. The preview window shows video and audio without problems.

I noticed that Ulead released fixes for Hauppauge cards this month. But I do not see any fixes for the 550pro chipset. Are they interested in having ATI 550pro owners as customers as well? I would really like to purchase their software if they are willing to make it compatible with this chipset in the near future. I cannot contact their tech support because I only have the trial version. Can someone with the full version alert them of this problem? Thanks so much.

Both Hauppauge and Terratec are Ulead partners who bundle Ulead products with their hardware -- that probably provides enough incentive for these two companies to iron out any compatibility issues.

Have you had any luck capturing using other tools, such as ATI's MMC, Windows Movie Maker, or the capture module in the free VirtualDub program? That would help you determine whether the problem is isolated to UVS or not.

Also, Ulead does monitor these forums, even though they rarely respond here to problems.

To be more specific:

When I try capturing the video as an avi file, it pops up a window saying this:

Unexpected error: No time stamp has been set for this sample.

Followed by this window...

Capturing Failed.
The file created is corrupt and unusuable.
It will be automatically deleted.

If I try capturing the video as an mpeg file, it records for a few seconds and then says this:

No video was captured. Please check if there is any input signal.
There may be no device selected.

But it does record those few seconds without problems. And yes, I do have a device selected. The source is the ATI AVStream Analog Capture.

Any thoughts?

Hi THoff,

Unfortunately, ATI does not support the 550pro chipset with MMC. Very odd, I know. I got suckered into buying this card after reading so many rave reviews. But now, I have yet to find a capture program that is compatible with this chipset. I have tried PowerDirector 4, Pinnacle Video 9.4, Roxio VideoWave7 Pro, and now Ulead VideoStudio 9, all without success. All of these programs preview the video OK, but have problems capturing it. I will give Virtualdub a try...

What capture software (if any) does Powercolor bundle with the card? Doesn't that work? Are there new drivers on the Powercolor site?

The software that comes with the card is an old PowerCinema3. It has no capture settings and infact is so buggy, that it freezes too often to be useable. Infact, I can't even get it to load to the TV portion without it rebooting my system.

ATI's Statement:
> To meet this end ATI has worked closely with Cyberlink®, InterVideo®
>and Microsoft® to create a robust user experience that brings out the
>advanced features of the THEATER™ 550 PRO video processor. ATI and
>our partner's THEATER™ 550 Pro based boards will be powered by one of
>these software choices to ensure the best user experience possible.

I would try a trial version of InterVideo's recording software or Cyberlink's
capturing software. There should be documentation on the InterVideo's
website.
