Does ASP not support .8bf plugins?
I see no mention of this nor a way to get it to work.

No, it doesn't. Those are for PhotoShop, and I am learning most are compatible with PSP.
The plugins that are available for ASP can be found here: http://aftershotpro.com/plugins/

Dan, the correct answer is no, but...df wrote:I see no mention of this nor a way to get it to work.
The Topaz Labs suite of plugins are 8bf filters that have their own exe files designed to run within compatible applications such as PaintShop Pro, PhotoLine, PS Elements, PS, etc. They will run within AfterShot Pro with Topaz FusionExpress, a free utility that was designed to allow use of the filters in LightRoom and Aperture. The one exception is Topaz ReMask.

Re: Does ASP not support .8bf plugins?
The reason why I ask is because one plug-in that I've come to need is ColorPerfect from CFSystems. http://www.c-f-systems.com/Plug-ins.html Their interface is much like an external editor but they do not provide an external editor. It's the one and only reason why I still keep Photoshop Elements around as they just refuse to make the plug-in work with PSP nor do they plan too, nor does Corel plan to make PSP work with it. I was hoping that since ASP is being touted as a pro image editor this might be a possibility. Guess not.
FYI if ColorPerfect is for getting accurate colors from difficult film scans.

I realize that you have a tool you love and have already payed for it, but have you considered alternatives? PictoColor makes some great color correction plugins that work fine with PSP. http://www.pictocolor.com/. I have iCorrect One Click which makes Perfectly Clear pale in comparison.
Besides, voting with your feet can sometimes motivate a vendor to reconsider what they will support. In this case, if you were to switch products, drop them a quick note and tell them why. One person may not be enough to change their business strategy, but you never know.

Re: Does ASP not support .8bf plugins?
Thanks for the advice but ColorPerfect, as far as I know, is a one of a kind. It corrects for the film base of a scan based on the film. I haven't seen anything else like it. Each film has it's own characteristics, much like each camera model has theirs. To simply apply a White Balance fix to the entire image without subtracting the film base first is still a distortion of what's there to be extracted.DocBrown wrote:I realize that you have a tool you love and have already payed for it, but have you considered alternatives? The ColorPerfect people say that even though PSP can use 16 bit plug-ins and can read and use 16 bit raw files from a scanner (it's just a tiff with no adjustments applied not an actual format) it still doesn't "make extensive use of something called the Photoshop Registry". What that entails I have no clue. They claim that even though the plug-in looks like it works with PSP and produces the same results it doesn't do.... something.
I've effectively paid twice for the plug-in. Once for the plug-in itself, and once for a copy of Photoshop Elements 8.0.
I've contacted the ColorPerfect people again with a link to http://aftershotpro.com/plugins/plugins-developer.html so we'll see if anything comes of it. I did mention that ASP supports PC, Mac and Linux.

Re: Does ASP not support .8bf plugins?
Well, judging by the discussion about the Topaz Labs plug-in http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=45192 I think it's safe to assume that it will likely never happen that the author ports ColorPerfect to ASP. Simply put, there's absolutely no point what so ever in making it non-destructive.
