VS x4 choppy playback issues

Post by joshpit2003 »

2. Describe your problem:

I installed this software (corel VS #4) on my dads cheap "e-machine" compact PC and it didn't have any issues.
I then purchased myself a brand-spankin' new 700 dollar HP Pavilion Desktop, mostly for using this editing software to edit my GoPro HD Hero 2 videos.
I am having really awful playback previews when I play "project". It seems to work fine for playback of "clip"(s) though.

3. What devices are involved and their mode of connection?:

I used a GoProHero2 to film in 1920 x 1080.

4. The Version of program is being used e.g. VS11+ VS11.5+ VSX2

VS Pro x4

5. Please list all patches/updates that have been installed relating to that version of the program.

service pack 1
service pack 2

6. Details of the source files.

GoPro Hero 2
MPEG-4 file
24 bits. 1920 x 1080. 16:9
29.970 frames/sec
49900 Kbps data rate

7. Project Settings

8. PAL or NTSC

whatever is used in North America

9. Did this error occur at the SHARE -

Have you read through this sticky thread on the Go Pro video? http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 01#p222801 Does it help?

yes I have, and I dont think it would help since I am not having problems importing or loading the movie files.
I am only having a problem previewing the "project" as a whole.

are there no other solutions ?

I've already tried re-installing it twice.
I can use the "Smart-Proxy" and that works, but is a pain to wait for it.
I also feel like there is no way my computer isn't powerful enough to preview the project smoothly.

Since I know it isn't the file type (because I was able to preview the same go-pro footage on my dads computer),
and I imagine it isn't the computer (because I just forked out a good amount of dough for an awesome one),
I imagine the only problem lies with the software. (or perhaps user error, but I can't imagine that since I've already been using this software flawlessly on my dads pc)

So if it's a software issue then I need it solved. I would have liked a phone-number to call, but this forum is all I was able to easily find.

Hi

Smart Proxy does help, however some users find they do not need to use SM, as you are having playback issues I would suggest a little patience whilst the proxy files are created.
If you close VS before the files are complete then you will have to activate manually, right click the clip in the timeline and select Create Proxy Files

There have been some problems where the proxy files are not being saved.

Please view Settings Smart Proxy Manager-Smart Proxy File Manager, the files here should have similar names to your video files.
Once proxy file shave been created a “double icon” can be seen on the video in the library and timeline.
Having identified the double icon, does project playback improve.

---------------------------

Are you able to play the video files on your computer using your media players, without problems.?
If you are also having playback problems, have you installed the software provided with the Go-Pro camera?

thanks for the info.

I performed the smart-proxy feature and it works. That seems to be my "work around" for now. But I really don't like having double-files, and having to wait for the proxy-files to render.
I purchased this awesome computer so I wouldn't have to do that. I'm guessing the 6-core processor isn't working well with the VS software... perhaps it was designed for a 2-core and there are added complications w/ 6 ?? (sorry if that makes no sense, but thats the only thing I can think of, that or perhaps VS has issues with 64 bit systems)

I can play individual clips without any problems with any other media viewer on my computer.
If you upload an HD file to Movie-Maker (which I hated, hence buying this VS) then MM automatically does its own smart-proxy to get lower quality imaging for editing purposes. (and it works).
And yes, I had already installed the go-pro software that came with the camera (in order to get camera updates).

What doesn't make any sense to me, is why this VS seemed to work fine on my dads tiny e-machine but is totally choppy on my brand-spankin new (and much more powerful) full-sized HP desktop.

thanks for the help.
Hopefully a solution can be found, because having to use the smart-proxy feature is bumming me out.

I am having the same issue. What do you have to do to use SmartProxy. I'm ready to dump VisualStudio X4 and go back to MovieMaker.

for the second time this programme is called VIDEOSTUDIO - visualstudio is a different Microsoft programme.

To enable smart proxy click on "Settings >> Preferences >> Performance" and then click to check "Enable Smart Proxy"

Maybe this can help you http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 10#p239262 something wrong in x4 when load some mp4 files. In this way you not loose any quality just change container with less restrictive options that seem work in x4. Works for me

btw you can find mp4box here http://www.videohelp.com/tools/mp4box it's free.

My issue isn't importing MP4s and getting choppy playback. It's taking an AVI, adding a title and background music and simply exporting to a MP4 for a Kindle Fire. I can get a smoother video with still pictures.

Are you choosing 'Create Video File' or are you choosing one of the specially formatted outputs in the 'Export to Mobile Device' options.

No, I am not. The kindle fire isn't listed. I selected 'Create Video File' and 'MPEG-4', then 'MPEG4-HD'. I'm up for trying other options.

I never had any issue posting HD videos onto YouTube or Facebook.

Thanks for the help.

Hi PeteFerraro

Well you did say “on Sat Feb 04, 2012 1:33 am” --- “I am having the same issue.”
And the issue was related to adding HD video and the use of Smart Proxy

Ok
Avi is just a container, there are many types of Avi, DV, DivX, Mpeg4, Xvid are just a few.

Right click your original video file and select properties, what are they?
Knowing the properties of the original video will allow us to advise on conversion settings.
I assume you are intending to upload to you tube, is this correct. :?:

If you wish you can use “Alt+print screen” to copy the window, save as an image and attach to your post.

That is the Windows properties box which doesn't really tell us much. Instead, please right click on your video *inside* VS -- either in the timeline or the library, and copy those Properties here.
