Hi,
Smart Render looks to me like a preferred option. Is there any cases that it will be better to disable it?
Thanks,
Abraham

Re: Enable/Disable Smart Render?
A lot of users have experienced a variety of problems including blips and heavy pixellation when using SR with high def video -- particularly AVCHD, but also HDV. Switching off SR in those cases has more often than not fixed the problem. So I now recommend people not use SR with high def video. While some loss of quality will be incurred, if you maintain the original video properties in the re-render, the eye is unlikely to be able to detect that loss after just one re-render. It may take longer to produce your final video without SR, but if your aim is a problem-free final product, then turning off SR will often be the preferred option.

Thank you Ken,
So I understand that if I didn't experienced those problems when using SR in HD Video, I have not any reason to disable the SR?

Re: Enable/Disable Smart Render?
My understanding of smart render from the thread that I started on the subject is that it looks for those frames that have not been altered and does not render them, hence reducing your rendering time because only those frames that have been changed are rendered.zehavi wrote:Thank you Ken,

However, if you are going from one format to another, eg AVCHD to MPEG, all frames need to be re-rendered, so smart render is of no real use, at least in theory.
In practice, I find that using smart render gives a smaller final file size, so this may be something to consider. At the same time, I have experienced errors when using smart render, in particular the synchronising of the audio, which went away when smart render was turned off.
In my opinion smart render is best left turned off unless your output format is the same as your input format.

Bruno
