"Corel to acquire Roxio - Your thoughts?" Survey

Post by mrbobbell »

I just received an email message from Lucas Powell, Market Strategy and Intelligence, Corel Corporation, to the effect:

"As you may have heard, Corel has entered into an agreement to acquire Roxio. With this deal, Corel will expand its product portfolio to include Roxio's broad range of digital media and security solutions.

We would like to hear your thoughts about Roxio, and what this acquisition means to you, as a loyal Corel customer."

I'm not trying to scare any other longtime Ulead customers, but I think this could be our only opportunity to assure that future development of VideoStudio doesn't get shelved in favor of a better-selling Roxio video editor.

I saw my favorite photo editor, Corel (nee Ulead) PhotoImpact, left to dangle slowly in the wind and I fear the same fate for VideoStudio.

Of course, the one course of action that would assure the continued development of VideoStudio would be ever-growing sales. I'm ready to cast my vote by upgrading to VS Pro X5 whenever it launches.

I've fully responded to the Corel survey.

I won't bore everyone with my full comments, but suffice it to say I stated, "In 2006, Corel acquired Intervideo/Ulead. In 2009, Corel discontinued development of PhotoImpact, a program I have loved for a decade and continue to use daily in favor of their own photo editor that I do not use. Consequently, I fear that Corel's acquisition of Roxio will result in the discontinued development of Corel (nee Ulead) VideoStudio, a program I also use daily."

I hope everyone who values VideoStudio (and worries for its future as I do) will make known their honest opinion of that program and the possible downside of the Roxio acquisition by taking the Corel survey.

THANKS,
Bob

The fact that Corel is actually taking surveys and asking for your thoughts is encouraging to say the least. I encourage anyone to take the survey and put forth their honest opinion, or lack there of, into it. No other software that I use asks for your opinion, at least not that I know of.

In my most recent thread the library I am volunteering doing some transfers to used to use Roxio.... It worked OK for what was needed but VS does these things so much better.... I don;t know what Corel will gain except less competition by acquiring Roxio.

Well, they go into competition big time with Nero. Don't forget, Roxio is not only about video editing!

I too responded positively stating that it it helps enhance the product I love (VS) then all the better.
At least Corel has not dropped the Ulead web site which still has a bunch of freebies for download.
I am impressed by their constant requests for the opinion of their loyal or not so loyal users.
As df states I don't know of any other software maker who inquires on a regular basis as to my satisfaction or opinion of their product and company activities.
Seems like good business sense to me.
The end result is I am happy and look forward to upgrading (spending money) on future releases which would be their obvious, ultimate goal.
