What is going on here?
I am hoping that someone can tell me what might be going on on my system.
I have a licensed copy of ASP and have been using it semi-regularly for the past couple of weeks. I generally take full-size RAW images with a Canon 7D and I have been working with one particular folder of these since I got ASP. I turned the computer on the other day and all of the RAW CR2 images in that folder had disappeared from the film strip in ASP. My first thought was that something had happened to the images, but when I checked the folder with Windows Explorer they images are still there.
1- I can see them and load them with CS5, PSP X4, Sagelight (another editor I use) and Dxo,
2- I tried refreshing the folder in ASP but it did not help. The images still do not show up in the film strip,
3- I tried copying the images to another folder. When I did that I could see them, in that folder, in the ASP film strip, but when I change back to the original folder I still cannot see them,
4- Exiting and restarting ASP has no effect,
5- I thought that perhaps I had inadvertently changed some setting so that I could not see CR2 files at all, but if I select another folder containing RAW images I have no problem seeing them,
6- I renamed one of the files I had copied (in item 3) and copied it back to the original folder. I could then see it, but still could not see any of the others,
7- Changing to the thumbnail view does not have any effect. I still cannot see any of the RAW images in that folder,
8- If I try to open a file with File -> Open I can see the files in the browser window but they will not actually open. Nothing happens when I select the file to open.
Does anyone have any thoughts about this? What have I changed in ASP that might be causing this problem? I know I could probably copy all of the images to another folder and be done with the problem but I would like to know what has happened here so I will be prepared if it happens again.

I am quite prepared to believe almost anything, but can you put a filter on a single folder? Remember, I can see the CR2 files in other folders with ASP and I can see the CR2 file I copied back in the folder. I just cannot see any of the other CR2 files in that folder.afx wrote:Filter?

Quit ASP and remove the cache in such a case. It is located in your ASP user folder. You can check which one that is in the Help-SystemInfo referred as User Home.
Then restart ASP and check you folders again.

Well, if you had the filter on to filter out something that you applied on all images in the folder....MikeFromMesa wrote:I am quite prepared to believe almost anything, but can you put a filter on a single folder? Easy to check though. If the color of the filter button is green your filter is on.

This worked. I had to remove the entire cache folder. Removing only the folder in question from within the cache folder did not work.andreas wrote:Quit ASP and remove the cache in such a case. First, thank you very much for the information. It fixed the issue and I am grateful.
But, of course, it only leads to a second question. What, exactly, was the problem? What was wrong in the cache folder or in the processing to have caused this issue? Is it a known issue? Or something new? And is there something I can do in the future to avoid this problem?

Re: What is going on here?
Hi,
there have often been problems regarding the caching. I would like a reproduceable bug here, but I only see different problems sometimes. Stabilty has been really improved regarding the cache, but as we see it's not solved. you may report the bug to corel, but I see only a small chance for a bugfix when it can not be reproduced.

You advised in this instance to remove the cache. I checked mine and I find that I have in the cache most, but not all, of the catalogs that I have in the AfterShot Pro Catalogs folder under My Pictures, including all the previews in the .noindex subdirectories. This seems a duplicate of the main files. Is all this cache content necessary? It does not seem so since some catalog directories are missing - I may have deleted them earlier. Why are these duplicates created? Can I stop this in the future?

Re: What is going on here?
Mark,
as far as I understand the caching, in your case it holds the versions (which you imported later into the catalog) when you browsed to the folder. This may (or may not) be a duplicate. I wouldn't worry about it. Set the cache size and clean up to the values you want. Remember there is the possibility to call presets during the importing into a catalog. These settings are only in the catalog. They are not in the filesystem XMP (if its not set as a preference) and they are not in the cache. A catalog itself is like the cache for filesystem images.
The cache is used to speed up things. If you would like to save space, set the cache cleanup to every ASP run and set the cache size to small values.

Thanks - I didn't understand the function of the cache.
