The Nik Filters I got with X4 certainly work for me within the program as well as in X and X3. They are the only reason why I purchased X4 Ultimate.
They will not work in PS though as that has been disabled. And sadly Nik will not accept payment to upgrade the filter to the newer version. Their response to me was ask Corel to supply upgrading.
I was able to get the stand alone version of Nik 3 when it was being given away just before Christmas in a promotion. Perhaps they may do that again in the future.

With that said, make sure you click Effects> Plug-ins> Nik Software, and make certain that they aren't already installed.

That's not to say that you could be different, but let's just cover basics shall we?
Thanks, df. You took the words right out of my mouth... :D
JStanley,
When someone complains about installation don't try to fog it off. Not everyone is a smart Alex. Here is the text in ful.

I recently upgraded from X3 to PSPX4 Ultimate on line. I have managed to install the X4 successfully. Then I proceed to install the Ultimate download. It wouldn’t install. It goes through unpacking and then it says "The path to the language folder could not be resolved, setup cannot continue". I tried to contact the support team. I spent more than an hour on-line but no one would pick the phone!.
How do I install this plug-ins?
You may answer it if you know it.

Dave
If it is greyed out how are you accessing Nik Pro 3, Dave? It should be there in the Effects/Plugins list.

If you mean filters that need to be installed liked Topaz, Alien Skin etc, then install as normal and then in PSP under File/Preferences/File Locations/Plugins browse to those folders to add them to the Plugin File Location List.
For Topaz I allow them to install in the Program Folders but I install my Alien Skin filters into My Docs/My PSP Files/Plugins Folder where the majority of my other filters are placed. If the filters don't need installing then they can be placed wherever you choose and then add that folder to the File Location List. I place all the normal filters into My Docs/My PSP Files/Plugins Folder.
For my other programs that can use these filters like PS, I direct them to look into the PSP Plugin Folder to save having duplications. If I don't want PS to use a filter I place a tithe before the name and it ignores it.

The above text is actually from another thread in this forum, but I understand your frustration.

In this thread, you wrote:
swingman wrote:Beware.. The Nik plug-in comes bundled with X4 Ultimate doesn't install. I have already made complaints about it but no answer from Corel. If I were you will wait and see if they make the program to install properly before parting with cash
And then I replied (in this thread):
JStanley wrote:There may be other reasons why NIK (i.e. PSP X4 Ultimate pack) doesn't install properly on your computer; it installs for other users...
Sorry if I offended you. I am not trying to fog it off or be a smart Alex(sic).

There are many threads in this forum about different installation problems and their fixes, many of which are caused by the same problems (especially for but not limited to Window 7 64-bit).

Sometimes it is just a bad download of the installer. Sometimes the user privileges or DEP settings are not correct for installation. (You need to have Administrator privileges and disable DEP for some programs to operate correctly.) Sometimes antivirus, anti-malware, or firewall software is preventing proper installation. Sometimes registry cleaners and/or third-party uninstallers remove appropriate registry keys necessary for proper installation. Any of these could cause the problem you have with installation of the Ultimate pack.

Sometimes the software is installed but the location or usage is counter-intuitive.

The problem may also be a problem with the installation of PSP X4; since you said the error message "The path to the language folder could not be resolved, setup cannot continue" appears, it might be trying to install into the EN (English) folder when you did not install it as one of the installed languages during the installation of PSP X4 (you can check which language(s) are installed). If you install English and your own language during PSP X4 installation, it might resolve this problem you are having.
Hi,
There is only one language installation. That io english. Its easy check by inspecting the folders. I had a reply from the front desk. That person now raised it to higher level. So It is not simple as some of you suggest in this forum. because you managed to install in the past doen't mean the current version is foolproof. I will wait for the official reply.

I want to thank you all, this is a really good thread for new users, I tried to install some old plug-ins (that I used on PaintShop 10) but a lot of them didn´t work, it´s good to see a list of some that can help us.

Every filter I use in PSPX and that is 1,000's including most major new ones that require installing, work perfectly in X3 [with fixes applied] and in X4. When I say every filter, I'm not including ones that have not been updated and won't work like some of the DragonFly Filters. So out of all the ones I have there may be 1-3 to my knowledge that can't work in newer versions or newer OS.
And this is the case on XP, Vista and Win7 for me. Once you move to Vista or Win7, some of the older filters need to be updated from the programmer's website or require Patching with the FMPatcher or may require a new update for installed versions.
To make things simple for me all my Plugins, except for a few installed ones like Topaz, are in the normal My Paint Shop Files Plugin Folder and all 3 versions of PSP look to the same folder to access them.
