Basic Newbie Question-PaintShop Pro x4

Post by bkford »

I know this is extremely basic, but I am just in the program for the first time. I am in the Adjust workspace. Is it possible to see the before and after views of the photo while editing?

Never hurts to ask. But no I don't believe you get a side by side (or similar) before/after comparison in any of the tabs. The exception being a plug-in or the preview window in the adjustment tools in the Edit tab.

A work around that you can do for the before and after view, before you doing any edits, you can right-click on the image select COPY then click on EDIT > PASTE AS NEW IMAGE. You can then continue and work on one of the photos and leaving the one you pasted as new image as your before preview.

Okay, I can try that. It seems to me that most people would want to see the change with the edits applied, by comparison to the original. Apparently not, or it would default that way. Thanks for the work-around.

Yes but that is not in the Adjust view.

Also an easier method would be to just hit Shift + D which duplicates the image as a new image (layers and everything intact) for you. Then you have to turn off tabbed mode, you can do this by either deselecting "Tabbed Documents" under the Window menu or by selecting "Tile Vertically" under the Window menu. This forces the images into windows and makes them both visible.

But in X4 it's harder to get them side by side without accidentally setting them back to tabs since the original windowed interface has taken such a backseat in the development.

I know this is a bit late, but before doing any editing you should create a copy and save that as your new image for editing. Advice on Shift + D is a good one. Should you have a crash while editing you could loose your original and end up with nothing. Make sure you have auto save function on.
