new computer: re-installation questions:

Post by mbrien »

Hi, I just had a major computer upheaval a couple of weeks ago.
my most recent version of VS was: VideoStudio 12.0.98.0 PRO

My computer went through major overhaul; new hard drive (old one died); and I now am running Windows 7 Home Premium; replacing my earlier Windows Vista.

I was able to retain all my data and most of the program download items;

I still have a directory saved Videstudio 12.0 but I do not see and *.exe file in there.
I still have my VideoStudio install disks (for #7 and even #4)

How best should I proceed forward to get VS current version up and running on my computer again?

Thanks, Michael

If you only have the previous installation folder then you will not find the executable to re-install.
The folder you are looking at is what the installation disk creates.
If you have the serial number but not the disk you can search the internet and find the Install files, install, and use your serial number to bring her all back online.
Jack of all trades,
Master of none!

Hi
As far as I know Video studio X2 is the only version that saves the installation files to the hard drive, all other version saves them to a temporary folder and deletes after installation
From memory C/drive/program files/ Corel/X2 Installation files folder.
If you can locate this folder then you should be able to install X2.
Not at my pc but i think you need to look for Setup.exe

But where is the original file that you purchased from Corel, I assume you downloaded or did you buy the disc?
--------------------------------
Even so you will need the serial numbers/activation codes.
You should be able to retrieve these from your corel account, assuming you registered the program.

Thanks much for those helpful replies.

Well, yes, I got the X2 as a download (Upgrade);

I may (or may not have ....???) done the actual registration ...? do not remember (thought buying it ... paying for it, downloading it online registered it ...?) ... but I did the transaction online and then the download and install; so no, I haven't any disk.

Problem is the original folder "Program Files" is up in smoke after the hard drive overhaul ... that's why I'm having to re-install*** my Sonar ... Acoustica ... Paint Shop Pro (haven't even gotten to that one yet) ... Finale ....etc., etc.

*** a process that's requiring me to contact companies and present serial #'s ... registrations codes ... etc.,etc

Forgot to ask, should I put in a help request in the Corel support (installation help) part of their main web page?

Thanks again,
Michael

Well --- you could try putting in a request to Corel support ,, but if you haven't got a serial number and you didn't actually register it (you have to do it - it is not automatic) then I wouldn't hold out much hope of getting any help from them - but by all means try.

I would think your only option now is to buy the latest version - which is X4 - only this time download the file AND SAVE IT TO A CD/DVD - which you can keep forever in case you have another failure. Also this time register your serial number - you can do it online and it doesn't take long - then you can always retrieve all the serial numders of all Corel products which you have registered.

As you do not have a serial number - or a registered serial number - or a recent version disc - or a previous version installed I am not even sure that an upgrade would work for you- you may well have to buy a full price version and start again.

but please this time help yourself - do not run the download - download and save to disc - then run it - then register it - you will then be able to recover if you have another crash

Hi Michael

Try accessing your account on the Corel web site, that’s if you can remember the User Name and Password (user name is probably your e-mail address)

If you did register then you should find the serial numbers, you will also need the earlier version serial numbers as you say X2 was an Upgrade.

Corel support, well they may help with the serial numbers, but doubt if they will give the download again.
As the X2 was upgrade the supporting program would have been Ulead VS9, 10 or 11 and they are no longer supported, do you have those serial numbers?

If the drive has faulty software/operating system, then you may be able to read it as data, if it’s a hardware problem then Upp’s

If you purchase X4 you will need the full version not the upgrade as you don’t have X2 serial number.

Good luck

Okay, good recommendations, thanks.

I know I must have the Paypal (if it was Paypal?) receipt around in my Paypal receipt folder .. if that'll help ...

or if not that, I'm sure I used my cc which if nothing else has a record of the transaction ...

I should have the s.n. saved somewhere .. I'll try reaching Corel ... see if they can drum up a record.
It's weird, I can find the order number and all that for my latest version of Paint-Shop-Pro which I updated just before tha crash ... but I do not [yet] find the s.n. statement for my VS.

oh well, if all fails, I'll just spring for the latest version(s) .. need to find out if I need to first load VS 7.0 from my disk and then upload upgrade(?) or just buy full version outright.

Thanks for so many helpful replies,

Michael

Hi Michael

The upgrade to X4 is only available from having X2 or X3.

Quote from Corel Site
To purchase the upgrade version, you must own a previous licensed version of:
VideoStudio® X2 or higher (Standard or Pro)
Corel® VideoStudio® Express
Corel® Digital Studio™

VS7 is not eligible for upgrade to X4

If you purchased the program from corel.com as a download media, you should have the order recorded on your corel.com account. If you're in luck the download link for the product will still be active, you can however try activating the trial version of VS X2 using the serial number that you have you can download the trial of VS x2 here.

Also keep in mind that VS X2 is not fully compatible with Windows 7, but you can install SP2 to make it fully compatible. Just visit http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=1300014

uh-oh ... not fully compatible with Windows 7?
yikes ..

Well, I'll check the Corel account .. I know the exact date I did the download ... and can probably furnish purchase proof of such download

Well, I'll figure it out one way or another ... geez, really am missing access to the program these last few weeks ...

Well, good, good news! I did manage to get into my Corel.com acct .. and can now locate the actual s.n. for this (and other products).

I expect it will be an easy process to request a re-submittal of the file(s).

I'll dop in with any followup inquiries if I run into any snags ..
thanks, Michael

great!

I do have the receipt with purchase code (as well as the s.n.); left a long work order with Corel.com but I may just go ahead and do the downloads you advised.
Thanks

However, it will not accept my unlock key ... help

Post by mbrien »

uh-oh ... what's this mean???

The download went smooth ... unzipped it all and got the program up and running; but the 18-digit activation code that is clearly shown in the receipt does not work; a dialog box continues to open saying the activation code is incorrect.

Tried different case for letters;

Alternately, I tried the [also 18-digit] serial number shown on Corel.com my account under my purchase history for that upgrade of VS. That code does not work either.

Would you know what it is I need to do to get the program to accept my unlock key?

Is there some expiration on these things?

Thanks for any help,
Michael
