maximizing video quality
I am trying to burn VSP projects on Blu-ray discs with the highest quality video possible using VSPx4. I am using video clips from an HD camcorder with frame size 1920 x 1080 and 59.94 fps but when I try to modify the project settings I am unable to change frame size higher than 720 x 480 or 29.97 fps and I'm not sure why. However, after I click share and click to burn a Blu-ray I can open the settings in the new window and change the frame size to 1920 x 1080 but I still cannot increase the speed to 59.94 fps. My first question is do I need to change my project settings while working on the project or is it enough to change the settings after I click to burn the Blu-ray and the second question is can the fps be increased to 59.94?

Re: maximizing video quality
You may want to create a Movie Template from SETTINGS > MAKE MOVIE TEMPLATE MANAGER and select the option for (*.m2t) and specify the configuration that you prefer, from there you can see the framesize and aspect ratio. Use that template to create a video file that you can later use to create your BD Disc.
You can visit http://pnoy.me/1F for more information about MOVIE TEMPLATE and http://pnoy.me/lt for CREATING A DISC

Re: maximizing video quality
Thank you. Just to clarify, after I create the video file do I burn the Blu-ray using another program or are you suggesting that if I import the video file back into VSx4 I can burn the Blu-ray with better quality than the original project?

Re: maximizing video quality
Hi
The project properties are of little use when working with HD video, I must admit it would make things easier/clearer if Video Studio allowed us to set Project properties as HD.
The only option you need is the aspect ratio so the preview screen displays correctly.
There is an option from F6 Preferences to “Show Messages when inserting first video”.
The first video inserted to a new project may prompt you to match the project properties.
This option does not work for all types of video, but maybe something you can explore on your next project.
OK
After editing you have two options to burn your disc.
1 /
Share Create Disc - Bluray will open the burning module and show your project as a single thumbnail.
To the lower left is an options cogwheel, (Project Settings) here you can set/adjust the conversion properties, I would suggest you reflect your original video files properties.
When you hit the burn button the process will render to create a temp video file used to burn the disc.
2 /
Share Create Video File-Bluray selecting one of the options.
Otherwise create your own template as Abiel’s suggestion to match your original properties
If however Share Create Video File, Same as First Video Clip is available use that.
Your choice really depends on the duration of the video and whether the final file is not to large to fit the disc.
The new video file has been created --------- to burn to disc…….
Start a new project, with nothing in the timeline Share Create Disc-Bluray
From the first window (icons top left) Add Video File choosing the video file you created earlier.
Continue to create the menu and burn the disc,

Re: maximizing video quality
Thanks again for the help, but two issues- when I Share Create Disc- Bluray and change the properties to reflect the original video quality I am able to change everything but the speed. My video clips are 59fps and I cannot go above 29fps in VSx4. Even when I imported the project as a video file and tried to burn that way the fps were still at 29. I'm feeling that this is probably just the max VSPx4 will allow...
The second problem is that I imported the project as a video file as you suggested and the disc burned fine but during playback the video jumped back a few seconds and repeated itself in several spots and then deleted the rest of those specific clips. Any ideas on whay that happened? Seems like every time I clear a hurdle another one pops up...

Re: maximizing video quality
I may be wrong but I don't think Blue ray discs can handle 60fps. No TV that I know can handle 60fps either. Only pc's or macs can display 60fps videos. Most current specs are lagging the cameras that are producing 60fps. This has been discussed many times before in this forum and I recommend yo search 60fps and do a google for blue-ray to be sure... Re: maximizing video quality
As far as I am aware, Al is correct about the maximum bitrate for Blu-Ray discs when we are talking about 1920 x 1080p video. Under the current international standard, only 1280 x 720p video using full progressive (non-interlaced) 50 fps (PAL) or 59.94 fps (NTSC) can be burned to a blu-ray disc. See for example http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Di ... _standards
Please note that the international Blu-Ray standard is not the same as the international AVCHD standard which was changed in 2011 to include 50/59.94 fps fully progressive frame rate and raised the bitrate to 28 Mbps. The international Blu-Ray standard has not yet caught up with this.

Re: maximizing video quality
Thanks everyone for the info. Now if anyone has any ideas on why my project clips got all chopped up when I burned the project onto a Blu-ray disc that would end all my troubles!!
