Burning problem only copies part of the movie
Hi I am hoping for a quick miracle. I have made a movie 40mins long. It is comprised of jpg, mpeg 4, a few photos from ipod (jpg compressed), wav files, wma files, vsp movie sections and music. The movie looks great but when I go share and try to create a video file it all freezes at 99%. If I just go into create a dvd it only does about 16 minutes of the movie. I have looked around the 16min mark but cannot find anything that would be creating the problem. There are a few sections of movie files which have all been converted to mpeg4 but I did not think there was too much in any one spot. Any suggestions??? I have spent days on this and need to have it finished by Thursday - 2 days time!!! Any possible suggestions?
Sorry I am using Video Studio X3. Rae

Hi
Knowing the properties of all the video files you are using may help.
Right click a clip and select properties.
My first thoughts are a corrupt file, or a non-standard file.
Quick Time, some issues reading Mpeg4 have been cured by updating to the latest version.
When you Share Create Vide File—what are you selecting next
Try disabling Smart Render
Share Create Video File—choose a template????
From the save window select Options lower right, uncheck Smart Render

Re: Burning problem only copies part of the movie
Hi I will endeavour to give you the information. My latest attempt however said that video studio encountered an unspecified error and send dump file, which I did. The render stopped at 75% this was with smart render disengaged.
Now the properties of the project I am using a HD Instant project to begin with HD Birthday, then I have mp3 audio files, jpg interchange format - jpg compression, vsp files (pal), wma audio and mpa effects and a flash animation swf. I did do one a day or so ago with no music and it was fine but of course a movie without music is like a car without a wheel.
I do know there were problems with mpeg 2 files as I was one of the ones who alerted Corel. I did have one mpeg 2 file I noticed when I was getting these properties and I have deleted it so I will try try again. I know also that they have fixed the mpeg 2 problem with x4 but that does not help me at this stage.
I could download a trial version but would I then be able to open my current project made in x3 in the new x4??????? I did ring them to try and find out a few things about x4 but was told they are all away for the week doing a learning program????
You asked what I did next when I hit share. Well I go share then create a video file - have tried this using the same properties as the project and also tried going into create a dvd?????
Please let me know if you think of anything else.
Regards Rae

Re: Burning problem only copies part of the movie
Hi all, well I have done it. I made a copy of the movie then I cut it in half. I then rendered one half and then rendered the other giving them both different names and saving them. I then found where I had saved them clicked on the first half and it went straight into x2 I then minimised the screen and found the second half and double clicked on that and low and behold it came up alongside the first half and I then did share and made a dvd!!!!! Half the original things had been deleted but who cares. Comments please! Rae

You gave a list of files you are using in your project and mentioned “vsp files (pal)”,
Adding a project file into another is called nesting. Doing so can cause problems especially if done by mistake.
I do not use the nesting process but prefer to render the project to a new video file.
So can you confirm that you have or have not added a VSP
Open your existing project, the one with the problems.
Go to preferences, (F6)
Change the “clip display mode” to “file names only”
Now view the project in timeline view to read the file names, do any indicate any as being a VSP’s

Have you updated your Direct X? If not then you can download the one for Windows XP at http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=35

Re: Burning problem only copies part of the movie
Hi have done as you asked and yes some clips do display as VSP files. I have done this before without problems. What should I do with these files so that they are compatable. Also do I reset the F6 as it was originally or does it not matter? With regards to Abel's reply, I went to the Microsoft site and downloaded the Direct X only to be told it is already installed on my computer. Rae

Re: Burning problem only copies part of the movie
Hi Rae
When you nest a VSP the project has to remain as is.
changing the nested VSP may cause errors, removing / deleting clips used in a nested VSP will cause problems.
OK look at the clips in the timeline and identify the nested VSP’s their names and location on the hard drive
Now open each VSP in turn to check the contents are still intact, and that the VSP works ok.
If you have a problem with the project then correct them.
Also check that this project does not contain nested VSP's
Do this for all VSP’s
Once you confirm that all VSP’s are fully functioning open your main VSP, try to Share Create Video File………..
If the above does prove to be your problem I would refrain from Nesting VSP’s
Render each VSP to a single video file, then if you need to combine into another project you add a video file.
You can change F6 preferences at any time to your needs

Re: Burning problem only copies part of the movie
Hi Trevor, Thanks for your helpful hints. I have been guilty of "nesting" previously. I have created whole chapters with music etc. and then combined them altogether. I have had no problem with any of them and most likely because I did not make any alterations. I have done this many times as I often use templates or instant projects as the beginning of what I will call "chapters/segments" I have just gone back and read where I was advised in the forum to make a seperate video to do this BUT I now see I was supposed to render the file too, which in this instant I did not do. The rendered file is then saved and I am able to click file and insert into the timeline/library is that correct???
The VSP file in my movie (and there is only one short one) was altered in so much as I added music and muted the VSP file. I will delete the file from the one I was having problems with and will also delete the extra VSP file I made (the one I added) and add the video direct from the dvd with multi clips. I am sure this must be the problem as you will see I mentioned that I was able to burn it all without music.
When you add digital media and then multi clip segments from it - it is then an mpeg file isn't it. X3 has a problem with mpeg too doesn't it?
Can you also tell me if X3 and X4 are interchangeable? In other words can I open an X3 project in X4?
Thank you so much. Regards Rae

Re: Burning problem only copies part of the movie
Hi Rae
I never use nesting and always create a video file to add to my project.
I find there are to many pitfalls in nesting VSP’s, some users not realising that they have done it causes all sorts of problems, especially if nesting inside a nested VSP, if you understand.
You should be able to open the nested VSP (the one short one) in its own right, make sure it plays ok, render it to a new video file using the properties you would use for the main VSP. A thumbnail will be placed in the library.
Then replace the VSP, open the main vsp, right click the nested VSP and select “replace clip”, browse for the new video file. Should work, otherwise do it manually.
-------------------
I don’t understand your reference to “digital media and mpeg or X3” as far as I know X3 does not have a problem using Mpeg2 files.
Video Studio X4
You can open your X3 vsp projects using X4,
VS X4 projects can be opened in X3 but have to be saved as X3 compatibility during saving..
File Save As-choose the Save As Type. You can view this option using X3.

Re: Burning problem only copies part of the movie
Hi Once again. I will do what you said and render the small segment of movie and insert the rendered version into the main movie as suggested. I did manage to burn the movie by making a copy etc. etc. as I mentioned previously.
When I said about inserting digital media - I mean going into "Capture" and inserting digital media as the program says and inserting a dvd and selecting the chapters I want and then I do a multi clip on them just to get little sections. I hope that is clearer. I could do this with this little bit of problem movie as it is already on a dvd previously made by me. Boy, it is getting or sounding complicated. Never mind you have helped me no end and I won't NEST again!! The other problem I mentioned with X3 was the problem with the audio - something else you helped me with earlier but we won't go into any more.
Thanks again. Maybe I will try X4 and see how I go.
Regards Rae
