After reading, please see the updated example on my following post ...
Been using X4 (14.1.0.5) since the first week of December, 2011. Everything has been fine; no complaints until this morning.
Looking for help with some nasty artifacts I'm seeing displayed in X4. I have attached several files to demonstrate what I'm seeing. The files I have uploaded are screen shots of what I see (which is exactly what I see). I only see these artifacts in X4. I also have X3 installed on this machine and I don't see this in X3. Neither do I see this in any other image viewing software I have on this machine. If seeing is believing I would be happy to supply any screenshot requested.
For what its worth, my workflow for modifying/creating files is: Nikon NEF > Uncompressed TIFF > JPG. I follow this same workflow in PSP and Lightroom 3. You'll see notes on each of the attached files that describes which programs created which files. These example screenshots were not modified in any way except to re-size them for uploading to this forum. I really wish I could have uploaded a larger file - the harshness of these artifacts just don't show up as well in a small image displayed in a web browser. Can you download these files for a better look???
I would point you directly to file numbers "1a" and "2a" - both of which were created in X4. The artifacts should be obvious but I'm looking at the front of the dog's paws and around the eye. I've tested with multiple photos and I'm seeing this very consistently. You'll see the same artifacts in the file created in Lightroom 3 but it isn't as pronounced as the X4-generated files.
I have made zero configuration changes to X4 since the first couple of days of installing it. I've racked my brain and I just can't think of anything that has changed. I would be happy to test any config changes you think might help.
The only thing I've noticed odd about my X4 is that I noticed a "reset" of my "routine" TIFF and JPG "save-as" options. I don't know how that could be related but I thought I would mention it.
Please help and thanks!
Kevin

Re: X4 Displaying Nasty Artifacts
Not sure if this may help or not, but it may be related to Nvidia settings within its control panel. Sorry, can't think of the exact feature to check.

PS - If you're not seeing these artifacts in the examples I provided, please let me know and I'll try to fix that.

Re: X4 Displaying Nasty Artifacts
The Lightroom created file appears lighter, the other two appear to have mild noise but nothing that I'd say was nasty or even obvious. Have you saved the images themselves in X4 then viewed them on a different viewer or even a different computer?

Yes, DF, the X4 and LR3-generated files look a bit different - that's just the difference between two RAW processors.df wrote:The Lightroom created file appears lighter, the other two appear to have mild noise but nothing that I'd say was nasty or even obvious. I only have one computer with X4 installed, and that is the only place I see this issue. And you're right - the issue isn't showing up well at all in the itsy bitsy files I had to create to upload to this forum.
ALL - Please see the new example I have uploaded. This is a much better example.

Re: X4 Displaying Nasty Artifacts
Another example:
I purpose-shot this photo to demonstrate the artifacts I'm seeing in X4 ...
1) This is a screenshot captured with the photo displayed in X3. Beautiful. No problems. View is set to 35%.
2) This is a screenshot captured with the same photo displayed in X4 ... not so nice. Compared to the photo above, note the difference in the hardness of the edge where the globe meets the background. View is set to 35%.
3) This is another X4 screenshot. Same photo with view set to 100%. Terrible. Can't edit like this.

Re: X4 Displaying Nasty Artifacts
Problem Seems To Be Resolved
Spoke to an agent at Corel. It was a bit puzzling but ...
1) saved my current workspace
2) reset the default workspace
3) reloaded my saved workspace
Done
