No it can't. Nik is compatible with Lr Aperture and Photoshop only.

Well it was not tested by its developers for PaintShop Pro that much is certain. It was designed for Photoshop and Lightroom specifically.

This is a quote taken directly from their website
Is Color Efex Pro 4 compatible with Corel PaintShop Pro Photo, Corel Painter, or other image editing applications?

Color Efex Pro 4 has not been tested in conjunction with Corel PaintShop Pro, Corel Painter, or image editing applications other than Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, Lightroom, and Aperture. We do not currently recommend using Color Efex Pro 4 with any other application not listed in our system compatibility page.
It's best if there is a specifically compatible version as you don't know what issues you'll run into.

So I went ahead and downloaded the demo. I had to point PSP to the Program Files location because PSP cannot handle using file shortcuts as plugins. It seemed to run, I tested a few of the effects, but it crashed PSP as soon as I exited. So I'm going to say it might work but chances are you'll lose anything you create so it's not a good idea to try. PhotoShop has some very specific APIs and methods that other program emulating PS plugin structure don't.

The one that comes with PSPX4 ultimate was designed specifically to work with PSP and is very good.

Have you tried any Topaz plugs? They work great in PSPX4 and the plugs are fantastic. My favorites (so far) are lens effects and adjust. Give them a try @ http://www.topazlabs.com/

Do you recall having any trouble loading the Topaz plug in? I am trialling the BW install with PSPx4, but having difficulty in running it. There may be something I am not doing correctly. File location is to the topaz directory. Is there anything else to do? It is showing in the PSP Effects menu, but flashes a 'startup' note which is too fast too read.

Set it to locate at ...\plugin for the directory (ex. mine is C:\Program Files (x86)\Topaz Labs\Topaz Lens Effects\Plugins). I have 4 of their plugins and all of them work great. You will have to add the directory for each plug. hth! :P

Are there any other details in PSPx4 that I should be looking at if a plug in won't install? I have PSPx4 setup on 2 computers. The second computer works with Topaz BW effects, but not my main computer.

If the plug in won't install, I'm guessing (there are far smarter minds here than mine re these things) it is not a PSP issue. I have all the Topaz plug ins installed and they all work fine in PSPX3 and PSPX4. Good luck.
Adverts for Corel products when you close PSP don't bother me.

I have yet to try it with PSP X4, however, NIK Color Efex Pro 4 and NIK Silver Efex Pro 2 will each work when configured as the External Editor and launched from AfterShotPro!

It is a somewhat cumbersome process to use more than one External Editor, as each time the Preference setting for the External Editor must be changed to the desired program. However once this is done the rest is very easy.

Once I've had a chance to explore PSP X4 Ultimate a bit further, I'll post back with my findings regarding launching the NIK software from within PSP X4.

BTW, for others who may be following this thread, PSP X4 Ultimate includes NIK Software's Color Efex Pro 3 plugins. This is the prior version of NIK Software's filters. CEP4 has many worthwhile improvements, new filters and new features.

Hopefully if enough Corel PSP and ASP users submit requests to Corel and NIK Software, the respective Dev Teams can find a way to enable both to work together more seamlessly. If you are a fan of the NIK Software features I encourage you to let them know you want Corel compliant capablilites. The converse is also true. Let Corel know you want NIK Software compatibility.
