NIK Software Filters with AfterShot Pro (and PSP X4).
NIK Software has a collection of outstanding products. I got them last year and have been using them ever since. They are amazing! They work as plugins from Lightroom, Photoshop, Elements and Aperture. Only from Photoshop, can they be launched as Smart Objects whereby the plugins will remember all their slider settings for re-editing. The NIK programs are also operable as Stand alone products but this is not a highly documented implementation.
One of the prior versions of the NIK products, NIK Color Efex Pro 3, is currently bundled with Corel PaintShop Pro X4 Ultimate edition.
It would be fantastic if they NIK products were available directly from within ASP (and PSP X4) without having to use an external editor method or workaround through the OS.
Even more outstanding, would be if they were operable at the RAW editing stage rather than solely at the TIFF and JPG levels.
As there already exists a business relationship between Corel and NIK Software, this presents a real and potent opportunity for an even more powerful alliance now that Corel has a powerful and competitive RAW conversion product with AfterShot Pro. The synergy of the NIK Software products with Corel's products could be a dominant force in the marketplace, and serve Corel and NIK very well!

Sounds like a great suggestion
Re: NIK Software Filters with AfterShot Pro (and PSP X4).
i guess writing NIK about this would be your best guess, they are the programmers behind their tools and decide in which software they can run as a plugin. Corel might suggest it, too, but the decision will be made elsewhere. help NIK by telling them about it.
Bibble since 2004. Aftershot until 2020. From then on darktable.

Already done so before starting this thread. I'm on NIK's Beta Team yet can't get in to details due to an NDA.grubernd wrote:i guess writing NIK about this would be your best guess, they are the programmers behind their tools and decide in which software they can run as a plugin. Re: NIK Software Filters with AfterShot Pro (and PSP X4).
Thus far, I have successfully launched and used NIK Silver Efex Pro 2 and NIK Color Efex Pro 4 from ASP.
Currently, doing so, involves the somewhat cumbersome process or redefining the desired application, each time, as the External Editor in ASP's Preferences > External Editor dialog.
From there launching the application accomplished ASP generating a desired file format and resolution image for the NIK software to use. When finished in the NIK software, focus is returned to ASP and the resultant edited image is accessible for further editing in ASP.

Make a different batch to be used for each external program. Then it's just a key stroke to call it up.

And don't forget mentioning that ASP works on three platforms, not just two :-)

Rob :
To clarify ... is this a TIF round trip to NIK or a RAW ?From there launching the application accomplished ASP generating a desired file format and resolution image for the NIK software to use. When finished in the NIK software, focus is returned to ASP and the resultant edited image is accessible for further editing in ASP.

It's a TIF round trip.

Re: NIK Software Filters with AfterShot Pro (and PSP X4).
Looking forward to trying the ASP to NIK launch method.
I recently bought the NIK Collection (now a Google product) and been playing in PaintShop Pro X5....all NIK tools launch cleanly as plugins from within PSP. However, the Silver Efex 2 tool can't seem to return to PSP afterwards...psp just goes into "not responding" mode with now end. Must force quit via task manager (this is on a Win8, 64-bit os).
All other NIK tools seem to return correctly. Any suggestions?

Any progress? I'm interested in using NIK products with ASP on Linux. It could be fantastic combination.Rob Greenstein wrote: It would be fantastic if they NIK products were available directly from within ASP (and PSP X4) without having to use an external editor method or workaround through the OS.
