Recently got a canon 7D and X3 crashes when I try to edit them.
Its fully updated and I even tried a new install so I was stuck converting the files to mp4s in Hitfilm.
So my question is how does X4 fair with .mov files from a DSLR at 1280x720 60p?
I can't waste another day converting files like that and I have another shoot booked on the 28th.
Thanks
X3 and .mov sigh...

I would recommend that you try and download the VS X4 trial version, since this is the best way to evaluate the program. You can visit http://pnoy.me/coreltrials to download the trial version.

Re: X3 and .mov sigh...
The problem with .mov files is that different people have different experiences with them in various versions of VS. I am one of the lucky ones and seem to have been able to open and edit .mov files in successive versions of VS, using the latest version of Quicktime. That also goes with X3 and X4. Other users (most?), however, have difficulty and find that they can only open .mov files using the version of QT which came with that version of VS. So I suspect you are going to have to roll back your QT to an earlier version. But I can't recall the one that came with X3 -- perhaps 7.5?
The main problem with this is for people who have iPods and use iTunes. The latter always requires QT to be updated to the latest version. So you will have a conflict in you roll back your QT.

Re: X3 and .mov sigh...
Thanks for the advice.
It didn't work..
My friend offered to let me use his CS5.5 machine if I don't get it figured out before next weekend.

Hi
I own a canon 7D all be it the Pal version
I must admit I do not often use it for video, the camera being a professional image device with video capabilities, its not a camcorder, I have tried it out on several occasions just to test its video functions. The quality being excellent.
First if you are having random crashes and haven’t done so reinstall Quick Time to version 7.5.5 as mentioned by Ken.
http://support.apple.com/kb/DL26
The canon Mov video uses H264 compression, video studio does not fully recognise this compression and as such the properties will show the compression as empty, right click a clip and select properties.
As far as I know the only way to create a h264 Mov file is to use the full quicktime converter
-----------------------------
There are several Canon video options, do you have similar problems using 1920 x 1080 at 29 fps
-----------------------------
There will be update patches for video studio, have you applied the relevant patches?
-----------------------------
I am using VS X4 but have also tried X3 and it seems to be working without crashes, however the clip playback does seem a little jerky using both versions, however project playback is ok when using Proxy Files which allows you to edit the videos.

Re: X3 and .mov sigh...
Thanks Trevor,
Sadly nothing has worked but thanks for all the suggestions.
I actually have a panasonic AG-HMC150 which is a good camera... Good work flow, 21mbps raw video, also did 60p, decent in low light, yada yada. However after seeing several Discovery Channel specials and high dollar films shot with a 7D I just had to have one. At 47Mbps, true depth of field, and low light functionality that rivals the Red One its no wonder why these little still cameras are becoming the new standard.
