How do I get sound on the DVD Player 1.0 Trial Version
Hi folks,
Can anybody help me please. I've just downloaded the DVD Ulead Player 1.0 30 day Trial Version and had no problems installing it. Played a DVD and got great picture but no sound?
Any ideas?
I've got Win 98 OS, Athlon 1250MHz processor, 256 RAM, Direct X 9.0C, a DVD ROM player in the CPU tower, and C-Media AC97 WDM sound if it helps.
I also have PowerDVD4.0XP installed and I'm getting no sound from that either but good playback video, so it seems it's just a sound problem?
Where do I turn it on? Any help before this trial expires would be much appreciated as the Ulead DVD player looks good.
Cheers,
Pete, Blackburn, England.

Hi Animechick,
Thanx for your help.
I agree, I don't think it's the software either, n I know zilch about computers. I feel like I need to just switch on the sound somewhere.
Been into Control Panel, but don't know where to go to get to 'wav audio in Windows'. Had two choices, 'Sounds', but I think this is just the little bleeps the computer gives out when u do things and not audio, and also Multimedia.
Under Multimedia Properties, Devices, their is a Media Control Devices list and in there is a Wave Audio Device (Media Control). Is that it? Clicking on this and selecting Properties it tells me the driver is enabled and the 'Use this media control device' is checked. Going into settings it just tells me I have 4 seconds of buffering, ...i.e. no 'mute' switch or anything.
Under the CD Audio Device, still within Media Control Devices within Media Properties, the CD music slider is set to it's max, and it's the same CD tray I use for DVD. CD plays fine through Winamp 5 btw, it's just DVD audio I need thro ULead or PowerDVD.
Furthermore, my C Media Wav Device is selected in Audio within Multimedia Properties, and under Devices, Audio Devices it tells me its enabled and active, but the settings box is highlighted to let me open it to check what's in it.
3rd and final choice. In control Panel there is an Icon for the CM! Audio Config and in it u can test if the 2 speakers are working, and they are, 'front left' and 'front right' somebody says as u test them.
Is any of this any use? Got any suggestions? Would be most grateful.
Absolutely sick of having no picture but not sound!

Nothing in Sounds listed like that. However in Control Panel, Multimedia, Audio Properties, Audio I found a volume slider headed playback which, when clicked showed a whole array of 7 volume sliders for audio. Is that it? All were at 50-100% up and there was a check in the mute box for Microphone Balance. I've moved all sliders to 100% max and unchecked the only box that was muted and still have no sound after retrying Ulead DVD Player. Rebooted computer and tried again and also PowerDVD but still no sound.
In Control Panel, Multimedia, Devices, Audio Devices, Audio for C-Media WDM Audio Device I selected Properties on it and the 'settings' within this section was not selectable/highlighted. Is there anything in there I need and can't get access to.
The sounds trumpet on the task bar near clock show the mute is unchecked and the volume set to max when doubleclicked.
Just as a aside, since you mention wav in your message, I was on a site last night where this guy is selling some book or other and u could listen to some audio from the book. So I selected the Wav option instead of real player to see what happened. Winamp5.1 came up to try to play it plus this in a small box: Directsound output v2.3[d] error. Error creating Direct Sound buffer. Error Code 8878001E. ...does this info help at all?
Thanx for your help. Sorry for long replies ...just trying to give you as much info as I can to help you help me!

Lol. YES!! I do. LOL.
I get sound through my 2 desktop speakers no problems when I play the internet TV pop tunes you can access over the net thru Winamp5. Was watching Dido sing White Flag in full colour and brilliant sound just the other night. Plus, my CD's also play through Winamp5 great too. So yes, my speaker are plugged in. LOL.
It's just no sound when I put a DVD in the DVD Rom/CD drive and try to watch it thru PowerDVD4, or my new trial version of Ulead Player 1.0. I only got Ulead bcuz I thought something had gone wrong with PowerDVD, but it seems both aren't giving me sound! Great picture with no blurring/skipping or anything...just no sound!
Where's goddamm switch!
Please keep trying. I know u or somebody can suss this out for me. It's not hardware. Could the error code I offered before be anything specific to DVD sound only?

Hey, I just discovered something...
Was on a company website last night and they had a video about the company to watch which I did. Windows Media came up, got perfect picture but again no sound! Does that mean anything to anybody?
Funny thing was, the trumpet on the bar was yellow and ok before playback but as soon as it started it changed to faded and had a small x over the top right of it. I hadn't muted it and it wasn't muted under Options. Just 'muted' itself before playback started.
Tried ordinary CD's again in same DVD ROM tray and Winamp5 plays the perfectly with good sound. So I no sound in Windows Media, and PowerDVD plus ULead for DVD playback. Any Ideas?
Could I configure Winamp5 to play DVDs? Sound works on that.
Please help.

My diagnosis: You're computer is messed up. To get no sound when any video is playing is just wrong. It's not suprising the CD and audio players work. They typically use different sources than the video. You may actually want to check your sound card and its drivers or get a new one. You may actually want to take your computer to the shop.
Sorry for the blunt diagnosis. Hope somebody out there realizes I've given up and can offer you suggestions.

Hey thanx AnimeChick anyway, no probs. Appreciate everythin you've done.
I'll get somebody to have a look at the soundcard and drivers then. I do know I've got the most uptodate drivers for C-Media installed, so I guess I need to buy another soundcard. We'll see.
Cheers. Thanx for all your help. I really appreciate your bluntness too. Life's too short!
