Wipes
I need a wipe that doesn't just blur the edges of two clips, but blends them together, like the wipes in Star Wars. I've seen this kind of wipe available in lots other products. Does anyone know if there is such a wipe in Video Studio 8? If not, is there some place where I can buy additional wipes and effects to add to Video Studio 8?
Thanks
Thanks

Crossfade is only available in the full version of VS8. If you have an SE version, then you will need to look elsewhere, such as the free Burger transitions, which can be found at www.burgers-transition-site.de

I have the full version, but I'm looking for something that will just crossfade the eges of two scenes during a wipe. Windows Movie Maker has a transition called Wipe, Narrow Down. I'm looking for something like that, but not attatched to Movie Maker.
The Burger transitions were pretty good, thanks for the tip.

crossfades
Quick note: Only the video crossfades. The audio will switch abruptly.
Anyone have suggestions to correct this???

You could try fading the audio out and fading it in again on the next scene. Obviously the quieter the audio the easier it'll be to fade using the fading buttons.
Or something I haven't tried you could edit the audio stream volumes in the timeline and fade it and bring it back up to the normal level in the next scene.
I can't think of any way of blending the audio, you could create or find a "Swish" type noise, then use a transition to peel one scene and reveal the other. That might make the change in audio streams not appear as drastic.

hi all!
try splitting the audio from one of your clips, place it on the music track, you will now be able to overlap the audio of the two clips!
you may have a slight synch problem so dont move the audio to much!
apply an audio fade out on the 1st clip and a fade in on the 2nd, this will in effect create a crossfade!
its worth messing about with this even if you have to use a separate timeline to create it then save as clip and drop it in your original timeline!
any synch problems can be overcome by taking the time to be fussy over the job!

ive just had a go at the above!
1. split the audio from the 1st clip, move it tto the music track!
2. split the audio from the 2nd clip, it will appear on the voice track!
3. apply the wipe to the video. the position of the 2nd video clip will be moved back!
4. move the audio from the 2nd clip back so that it matches in line with the END of its video clip!
5. apply fade-out to the 1st audio clip and fade-in to the second!!
viola!!! works a treat!!!!

You can use the "Bloom" transition of the Burger Transitions.
Go to the options screen and set the render mode to "crossfade" choose a direction of your joice and set the duration to 0.10
You can play around with the duration option as it specifies how thick the area of the crossfade will become.
The link to the transition homepage:
http://www.burgers-transition-site.de/d ... bloom.html
Dont let yourself confuse by the preview animation, it is rendered with rendering mode "boom white". When changing this setting to "crossfade" you will get exactily what you want.

Re: crossfades
There was a problem during the early days of VS 8 that caused the audio fade-in not to work during the transition period.weberry wrote:Quick note: Only the video crossfades. The audio will switch abruptly.

Initially a fix was produced called:-
uvs8_daylightsaving_audio.zip
Later this fix was included in the update patch
uvs8_patch1_e.exe
