How do I upload existing movies from DVD or youtube into the program for editing.
When I follow the instructions it says "No valid content."
Is it protected?
Thanks.

Re: Import from DVD or youtube.
First, if it is a commercial DVD, then yes it will be copyright protected. VS is unable to import from such discs.
Second, how are you trying to import the video? You should use the command 'Import from Digital Media'. A dialogue box will appear showing your computer folder structure. Click on the DVD drive with the disc in it. It should then show two folders: Video_TS and Audio_TS. Ignore the latter but tick the box beside Video_TS and then OK or Import or whatever the button is called. VS will then examine the disc. This may take a little while so don't be impatient. It will then bring up a new and larger screen with lots of little preview screens, showing scenes from the DVD. You select the ones you want to import by again ticking the little box up in the top left of each preview screen. Mke sure the Working Folder is where you want the imported files to go. Then click the Start Import button.
I am not sure about YouTube. How are you trying to import from that? VS cannot do it directly. Or are you trying to import files already downloaded onto your computer? In that case, you would use Insert Video as the command.

Re: Import from DVD or youtube.
To import videos from YouTube you need to use the Firefox browser and then install the free add in called "Downloadhelper" from http://www.downloadhelper.net
If you purchased and own the DVD you can back it up to your drive with software from DVDfab.
They have a free tool which will remove the encryptions and allow you to backup to your drive. http://www.dvdfab.com/hd-decrypter.htm
Remember you can only do this to backup your own DVD's that you personally own
