RAW Support Lacking in ASP and PSP X4

Post by jpmccormac »

ASP seems very powerful, but what is power when there's no support for RAW files? For example, the Panasonic FZ150 has been out since August, 2011 and yet there's no RAW support in PSP X4 or ASP.

I feel for ya, I had to wait quite awhile for my G3 support. I think the delay this past year was due to the big move. Hopefully things will improve in the near future.

I have 2 cameras. Nikon D700 and Fuji S100fs. The Nikon is in Bibble 5/ASP but not the Fuji. The Fuji has been on the market a longtime and is nolonger available. So what to do? I work around it with another program. I guess with all the cameras coming and going it would be hard for any program to keep up.

But is Bibble 5/ASP to blame or is it the camera manufacturers who are holding back?

Fuji has a sensor structure that is significantly different from the rest. Therefore the effort to provide Fiji support is much higher. So it all boils down to spend oodles of time for a small (but vocal ;-) number of Fuji users or handle other issues that affect the majority of users.
Let's hope that our friends in Austin will find the time now that Corel is putting resources in the lab.

cheers

well, Bibble/Aftershot is lacking Fuji support since the transition from B4 to B5.. that was 2 years ago.. so we maybe a vocal group of (legacy) camera users, but it all boils down to DROPPED functionality, not introducing anything new.. "difficult" or not, i feel pretty much left alone and behind having to fire up an old piece of software from the same (previous) company to process my images in my archive. i still keep two seperate archives just to reflect that situation. it is painful to say the least.
and current tendencies show that Fuji is one of the few companies at the front row of building bleeding-edge cameras while all the others are just building same-same stuff over and over again.

and don't tell me it is too hard to demosaic a different layout, it's been done before and by others also. a decent framework should cover that aspect anyway.
Bibble since 2004. Aftershot until 2020. From then on darktable.

Same with Epson (*.ERF from R-D1* series) and some other formats...
It feels like breaking backward compatibility and it is indeed a sore point for concerned people...

Some "legacy" Nikon formats (D1x) have been dropped with Bibble 5.0.0 in December 2009 and camera users complained.
It was re-introduced with Bibble 5.2.2 in March 2011... Good or bad omen?...
