Hi,

this refers to some discussions here: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=44903 but made a new topic in order not go completly off-topic.

o.k., I am also came over from the Bibble Forum. I am on Windows, but I don’t like the limited choice of operation systems either. Apart from that I don’t like to give information that is not required, it always has a taste of trying to analyze me (by now you might have guessed that I am German). So, why the hell should I enter the drive letter my windows, and details of my hardware configuration? Is a support forum for computer beginners? Be sure I will write these information, and far more, if I run into issues. For now, wouldn’t it be much more helpful to optionally add info on the camera brand? After all this is a raw converter, and the sensors are very different, so if someone reports a strange behavior on a e.g. Canon product, it may not apply to Nikon – or wise versa.

Yeah, the machine information is a bit too broad and still only allows one box. Are there still people with only one working machine?

As this information is listed on the sidebar with a font the same size as the forum text, one often ends up with posts taking up loads of space without much actual contents, just because the box is so large. In the end, more chance for RSI by scrolling.

Me thinks a list of operating system and cams might be useful, anything more is way too too much as it is rarely needed.

And the font should really be smaller than the regular text, after all this is supplementary meta info that is rarely needed. Currently the wrapping lines look just plain ugly, not a recommendation for a forum that deals with visual tools.

Hi Afx!
There is a setting in User Control Panel / Board Preferences that you can change to 'sub-silver' from the default 'prosilver'.
It makes the forum a little more readable.
But really this is a limitation of phpBB which has been unchanged for years.

Please bear in mind these forums were set up many years ago, as "Ulead" user to user forums and most apps were then video/photo editing related where knowing the make up of the computer was important. All those years ago, some people were using pc's not suitable for the task, and again as HD video came out, the same problem was found, and still can be as new technology comes into being, so the board was made to support all users, not just those who are using one particular product.

If the pc specs are there, it saves posts asking for this information, as again lots of posts come from newbies, who do not know what information to give, so in fact saving rsi when you don't have to scroll down several posts asking for required information

It also saves the site admin lots of time in sorting the wheat from the chaff, making it easier to delete spam posters/registrations.

Indeed, knowing where the board came from is useful!
That would also explain the lack of forums for any of Corel's Mac products as well.

To a point yes, but putting that into an ugly inefficent layout makes it a bit of a pita.
At least it could be shortended so that no entry needs to have more than one line. The labels are ridiculusly long.
And what is typical ratio of newbies vs. regulars?
And if this is imaging related, why is the color management info missing?

And the most impoortant question of course, how did you manage to get rid of it all in your posts?

When you open the forum, the thread with new posts in them will appear at the top of all the other threads, and will have the icon to the left of thread's title highlighted in, of all things, pink. In other words, you already what it seems you are after.
