it is not only annoying in the board, but it is also one of the reasons why mails from the board get a high spam rating.

With all respect: apparently you have not seen that there are already several people here who do not like the idea of a so called "structured" forum.
So those customers would not be pleased I presume. Here is one at least.
If it happens... so be it! I will not drop dead because of such a trivial thing.

Hope you are aware that "a" structure will NEVER please ALL customers. I've seen different proposals already.

And it's not by crying out loudest or by acting as if other opinions are non-existant that any of us will get what we want  .

It's not only getting used to the new name "AfterShot Pro". We will also have to get used to the way things are handled at Corel. We may like it or not!

Be fair!
Please note that the ratio of the opininons is rougly
1 third - against categories
2 thirds - wants categories.

In the "want" group are many of the "core" members of community.

Be fair. Of all the threads started in this forum so far, how many would you divide into subforums? So far I see 2 plugin related threads and most of the rest are just general threads.

What do you think, why do we have so extensive threads? (you named it "general", but...)
What do you think about miles long many posts' threads? Often the topic is changed many times.
Then, if you are searching for something, it is very disorganized.

One of the cosiderable causes for this happening is a feeling, that we have to "stuff" all the things for example "wishlist" related into one thread.
If we have subcategory named "Wishlist", then every single topic can be embraced in dedicated thread in its parent subforum, in which discussion can continue right about that particular topic.
This is stimulating good ideas, brainstorming, etc...
Threads stuffed with different often unrelated ideas are only killing it.
When you have each thread reasonably focused on particular problem, they do not become such fragmented and disorganized, and if you review such thread after longer time, you are thankful that you do not have nibble through tons of unrelated posts.

But when we have to use every thread as a "subforum holder", it brings only chaos.
And - I am sure you admit - this organization (and I see also habits on this forum) will literally provoke or guide users to do so.

I am slightly becoming tired of misunderstanding I have to face on this topic.

Andy Salay

There are just a few Bibble users here yet... Please look at the original Bibble5 forum. There are very many posts, and if THIS webboard will overtake the old ones' significance, you have to await MORE posts than on the Bibble5 forum. And yes, some posts on the B5 forume are miles long and (internally) fragmented by changing topic, so they became not transparent. But the majority of threads is very reasonably placed, and yes, they are clear.
This is because user is guided by the forum organization, not drawn the opposite direction by the lack of guiding topics/subforum.
Under the subforum, as threads dealing with the similair topic are held beside each other, the user see he can freely start his own thread if his idea is different from its neighbours, without a fear it will be lost in a chaos of unrelated threads.

HOWGH.

Why am I not surprised that this would be used as an argument

So?
99% of the rest of this board has never asked for categories  .
I'm not sure that an "invasion" of ex-Bibble-board-pro-categorists will make a difference  .

Why do you think it is an argument? I needn't to use this as an argument. Just notice it as an information. There are plenty of other reasons.

OK, point taken.

Then take this as just "information" too: I've searched OUTSIDE the "Plugin" section on the Bibble board for the word "plugin".
Results in 58 (fifty-eight) pages of posts, 866 matches.
And that would be a subsection that indeed all "core" members have asked for.

And the word "license" appears 273 times outside the "License Questions" section, 19 pages of posts.

Did not search in sections like Customer Showcase as indeed everything may end-up there.

I still am not convinced; I find this as cluttering as a board without subsections.

All this... just as information.

You seem to ignore the difference between plugin development and plugin users....

Ehm, did you search how many times word "plugin" appears in the plugin subsection?
You cannot request perfection in our imperfect world. As I wrote earlier, it is sad to stop trying to do things better because of a few failures, and even worse, to excuse it this way.

Brilliant... If this "throw all posts into the same pile" approach is all there is to this ASP forum, good luck! After this short timeframe it's allready become a pain to find the posts I'm interested in without spending too much time browsing through a too loooooong list of uninteresting posts. Using the search function isn't the best solution for everything either. Sometimes you get too many hits....

If there isn't going to be some kind of structure, I don't want to spend much time at this place. The "old" Bibble forum was nice in the way that I could browse through a couple folders limeted to my topics of interest without wasting time on looking trough a painfully loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong list of one and every post/tread in this forum.

Either it's some kind of structure or I don't want to spend too much time in here...

I really don't understand the willingness to argue against sub-forums.

Surely they can be created and then reviewed after - say - three months.

Or we can try it in three months without sub-forums and see if it really is that bad ...
