It would be useful to be able to sort by file type. If I could sort by file type, then I could easily gather all the jpegs for export to a flash drive or to burn on a dVd so I could show the pictures to others who can't view RAW files.

OK, and where does the manual explain how to sort by file type? I did read it and couldn't find it...

Use a library, then you can select by file type...

Sorry, I still don't get it.

I have the same sorting options in the library as well as in file system mode. Those are Name of the Version, Date the image was taken, Rating, Label, Flag, Shutter Speed, Focal Length, F-Number, ISO and Custom. Not a file type.

So how can one choose to sort by file type?

I wrote select, not sort.
Use the metadata panel.

Hi,

There is a big lack in Aftershot regarding the ability to manage the RAW+jpeg as one file.

I don't know if it's a bug or a feature, but when I make one or more variations of an image they are moved to the very back of the file list. I think they should remain their place in the stack/series (based on their file name) in addition to treating different file formats in the same way as a variation (but remain in their order based on filename)...

PRESETS!

I added this topic to the (bugs and) suggestions forum, but removed it from there and placed it in this forum:

I'm using ASP2 for a few months now, and when using it to quickly add metadata, selecting and default optimising and converting raw images, I'm very happy with it! I just find myself stuck when I want to adjust images to a particular taste. Then I look over at Lightzone, RawTherapee etc. because they have some nice presets for changing the 'looks' of images quickly. I also looked at alternatives like Color and Silver Efex, Alien Skin Exposure and VSCO Film, but they all only work on Windows/Mac and only with Adobe Lightroom.

So my question/suggestion to ASP, for me and for Corel, would be to add a good series of presets that resemble the output of these kind of programs/plugins, and/or to try to convince the people to make their software to work together with ASP. I would be happy to pay double for ASP and extra for those plugins. ASP is great, but it is still too limited when it comes to creativity. And I'm absolutely sure ASP would then get a lot more customers and attention then it does now.

Before it was rebranded as ASP by Corel, in the good old Bibble days, there was a good and active community on the BibbleLabs forum where there was tons of presets and plugins developed and shared constantly. Bibble Labs was a small company, and the participants in that community were more than happy to use time and effort to develop and share from their work (presets, plugins and other goodies for the software). Now when Corel is captain on the ship there doesn't seem to be much left of that good inspirational and active community. People doesn't have the same dedicated and altruistic spirit towards a big company, and this forum, with only a few topics/sub-sections, any presets or other goodies will easily drown in the vast abyss of other posts about bug reports and an endless list of posts with complaints. This is why I have suggested a dedicated sub-section for presets (like we had in the old Bibble forum), as they are an equally valuable asset as the plugins is for this fine software. You can read my post here http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 86#p288386. Unfortunately there seems to be no support for this idea (and I don't think Corel will put up resources in the foreseeable future to make presets when they struggle to keep up fixing bugs and add new camera profiles).

@Arnfinn, I came across your post already and agree, there should be a section like this or a good selection of presets should be part of ASP as it is. But you mention 'tons of presets and plugins' when Bibble was still alive. As I understand it, ASP IS Bibble, more or less, so that means all those presets etc. should also work with ASP. Am I right? If so, where are they???

See attached zip file.
These are a selection of presets accumulated from Bibble/ASP in the past.
Most were contributed by past Bibble enthusiasts, some may no longer work as they require Plugins that are no longer available or which have been recoded since.

Experiment and let us know if you have any luck.

Thanks Hobgoblin for sharing these presets! Most of these presets seem to work with ASP2, except for some black and white settings. I can't compare the film settings with other available software like the NIK Collection and VSCO, because I'm working on Linux, so I don't know how good they are. Some of them seem to be usable. At least that's something. That doesn't take away the fact (imho) that it would be an immense upgrade for ASP if it would work together with the programs I mentioned, or if they can find the time to add a collection themselves. Combine that with more supported camera's and sensors and I can't think of anything else I could wish for.

The coolest effect presets I had relied on a plugin called Mathbox. That plugin didn't survive the transition to ASP as far as I know. I have tried in many ways but I can't even come close to the magick those presets brought to my images. I really really miss it...to the extent that I feel that only some very foul words would justify my loss
