Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions
timely updates.
for raw converters "release early, release often" holds. There is some prestige in being the first converter that supports a new cam, nobody care about the converter that brings the camera support 6 months late.
Bibblelabs (pre-Corel acquisition) was always pretty fast (at least for Canonikon, but thats at least 70+% of the market)
If people buy new cams and their converter doesn't support it within some weeks (days?) they'll move on, and never come back.

Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions
NP PSD! Really??? This I hope is a something to support in the next few months.
Anyone who is even a bit serious with imagery NEEDS PSD support. Otherwise I find this useless.
And this is "Pro" software? Really??!!
Below are my experiences and opinions....
So far there are 3 major players in RAW developing and a few others that are powerful but limited in ways that keep them out of the playing field.
Major players: (Pro level)
Lightroom: by poplularity (Horrible file support as a DAM: JPEG, PSD, TIF, and default RAW.....No other adobe files? Horrible ingesting, DAM and cataloging methods...Hello! What are you thinking? Taking the most advanced developing abilities and cramming into the most backward thinking DAM/Library setup!!
It's also slow, and the sliders are a pain to make slight adjustments and see the result. Dual screen is limited and locked. You can't drag any tools or size the second preview). Best tool sets, Best logical layout for developing.
Capture One: by true studio, agency, and indie pro level image makers (It is like learning how to work on a new OS. It litters your folders with a bunch of folders and files. What a mess! You browse a folder, and plop, it lays down its trash and folders. Slow in some respects. For some reason things just look crisp when processed using C1(your files may vary). Great capture tool, and once you get a hang, developing is easy. Besides those using this and using the camera are, for the most part, careful shooters.
Raw Developer /Mac: No experience with this, but I hear good things.
Others that maybe great, and in some instances superior than the above, but handicap limitations take them out of the equation: (Notice the trend in the "Pro" software names. I guess Professional these days doesn't mean much)
ACDSee Pro (they tried hard and a good sw really, but LR4 came out for a very low price and took them out of the game. Also NO support for IIQ PhaseOne files, Really? Pro?) FYI, Hands down the best browser/ "DAM".
AfterShot Pro (Same as above, and will likely be in the same situation once LR5 is released...whats sad is it can't see PSD files. Seriously, Paintshop is a good program, but if you can't support PSD, you need to do something else. Stick to CDraw? I barely used it as it can't see PSD, and no IIQ. Whats the point in calling it Pro??? seriously!!!
SilkyPix (again, Phase One. People! Phase One is the digital back to Sinar, Mamiya, Pentax, older Hasselblads, and any other large format camera and now includes Leaf! what are you thinking? Are these sw's aimed at the enthusiast pro that just picked up his or her $899 DSLR at Costco or Sams club? Very little use. Nice, but again IIQ support and other layer adjusts, and such.
Corel! I hope you can help us long time supporters of YOU and we wish you allow your forward thinking you did in CDraw (for so many years) spill into AfterShot.
CorelDraw supported every file type its competitors had. I held its own against Illustrator, and in many ways surpassed it. PaintShop pro did the same and took it a knotch above with its nozzle tool and other features...But NEVER did it rule out file formats!!!
I can say Corel Draw suite had the biggest influence in converting and allowing designers to be on the PC platform, which now outnumbers MAC users in image making for amateurs and Professionals. Just go to an Adobe webinar or seminar, or conference. You will notice the growth of PC platform as the public realized that they CAN do the same thing, and COREL has a LOT to do with the reason for it and should be credited for it. It allowed amateurs to become Pro's, and take the blinders off from the lame and ignorent idea of how "design is only a MAC concept". I type this as I think AfterSHot HAS potential. Too bad we wont see it until it supports PSD for starters and IIQ for pro and true limitless market saturation.

Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions
Do not delay support for new cameras. We can wait for new features, if they are not ready, just disable them. ASP still don't have support for Canon 1D X. Support for 1D X should have been done before olympic games. I allready uploaded sample RAW files including photos of X-Rite color checker passport.

Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions
Someone from Corel, preferably in the development team and not a marketing spokesperson, who will take an active role in communicating directly with their customers in this forum.
If that's not a priority, maybe one or two of those large pinkish animals with snouts, short curly tails, and wings . . . . .

Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions
That is a good wish. I would also like to see that they start to have official timeline on updates on ASP (and probably PSP) with regular updates. These updates are mainly for adding RAW support for new cameras; but I will expect bugfixes as well. New features can be saved for the next version.Test123 wrote:They read this Thread http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=44903
Adobe does it, ACDSee does it, DXO does it, PhaseOne does it. So why not Corel?
Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions
I'm quite sure they don't. This tread is really too messy.Test123 wrote:They read this Thread http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=44903
Darktable 3. Bye bye aftershot.

Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions
The customer information of this company is really crap. If the new version isn't out in the next few weeks, I'll most certainly switch.

If the next version turns out to be horrible because they rushed to get it out by your arbitrary deadline, do you promise to stick with it without complaining?Fraenzken wrote:The customer information of this company is really crap. Side note: I processed a handful of NEFs from a D600 this weekend using the same version of ASP the rest of you are running. That body has a lot of potential.

Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions
That would get a little off topic for this thread, but this guy's posted a few: http://www.macandphoto.com/2012/09/fich ... arger.html. To get ASP to read them, alter the EXIF model data to something supported. NIKON D7000 and NIKON D3X seem to work fine. Could probably do the same for other unsupported cameras until Corel gets a new version out.ormdig wrote:Can you post any?

Continued Linux support and development. ASP is one of the few, maybe the only, serious application for Linux that competes with Lightroom and Aperature.

Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions
I would like to see full DNG file support.
That is ...
Full support for ...
1. Adobe DNG files.
2. DxO Labs output DNG files (DxO DNGs are usable in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom).
3. Able to output Adobe/DxO DNG compatable files.
However, I will not sit on Santa's lap to ask for full DNG file support.
I find the DxO DNG output files smaller than TIFFs, and quite usable with Adobe's Photoshop/Lightroom image editors.
Thanks, Rick Staff
