1. Scan support and a fast and clean gui for scanning pictures and film (super useful if you have a bunch of film rolls and pictures laying around and you want to scan and tweak & edit them in aftershot)
2. A dust removal filter (useful for scanned pictures)

ASP is for raw files from your camera. The makers don't care one tiny bit about scanned images. Try different software for that.tommyla wrote:1. I'm afraid you've lost me. I've scoured ASP and I don't find those options anywhere. Care to show me the way?grubernd wrote:both should totally work with the BatchQs and the "Post Processing" options.gjtoth wrote:I'd like to see a plugin to support FTP/uploading to a webhost (IE - Picasa, a Piwigo site, a Gallery site, etc.) and to interface with the default email client to email images. Make it so it resizes the images to the user's specs before uploading. This is a feature of DigiKam and it's great!
at least for email and ftp - closed webhosts with specialized stuff might not apply.

A very big thing would be the support for Sigma RAW files of cameras like DP1 and DP2 series or the new Merrill cameras (http://www.sigma-foto.de/produkte/kameras.html)! At least on Linux there is NO (!) software which can work with that RAW files, one always has to use Windows software using wine, which is really slow. Forums are full of Linux users and questions like "which program for that cameras", with now answer to that.
The Foveon sensor used by Sigma is not easy to implemente I guess, but you would make lots of people happy with that, and of course would sell the exclusive software solition for Sigma files on Linux! I could provide you with X3F-files of a Sigma DP1s and a Sigma DP2s, but there are lots of examples on the web as well...

Need RAW support for Fujifilm 770EXR.
And PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE change the browser pane to indicate what files are present that ASP can't (or can't yet) display. It's nice to know that those videos and new-format RAW files are actually where they should be, not lost.

Hello,
My suggestions:
My suggestions:
- virtual folders
- flag for hidden/private files by default excluded from main view, slideshows, export
- simple (click, click) or advanced (e.g. "(Keyword=Marry OR Keyword=Lucy) AND (Shutter>=1/30 OR Aperture<8) AND File=JPG")
- more external editors
- watch folders
- sync with db if file edited outside ASP
- more IPTC fields available in Metadata Browser (like Category, Event, People, etc.)
- definable WB eyedropper size
- plugin manager

Could you please re-instate the right click option to 'move to' or 'copy to' when a thumbnail or range of thumbnails is selected.
This helps to sort images to say a 'stock photo' folder or moves personal shots out of a client folder.
This command was in Bib 4 and I used constantly.

Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions
UI RELATED:
- the user should be able to change the actual order of tools in the right panel. If this is not wished for the standard tools, then it should be at least offered for the plugins: changing plugin order (by drag & drop) within one plugin-panel but also between the different plugin-panels (from "Plugins 1" to "Plugins 2" etc.)
- the different tools should be resizable, both in the left and in the right panel. right now the size of "Batch Output" is fixed, but I have there several Batch output presets, so that I am forced to scroll everytime, even though there would be enough space on the left panel, if the "Batch Output" window would be resizable.
- the magnifier should disappear when the mouse pointer leaves the main window (the picture) and only reappear when the mouse pointer is placed again over the picture
- When refreshing the tumbnails in "Standard view" with F5, the software should remember the position where the user was and scroll back to it instead of jumping to the beginning. Usually one refreshes the view to see what new versions or master files are there, but if the software jumps to the beginning, I don't see that and have to find my old position by scrolling down again.
- plugins should be removable from within the software (right click on a plugin, then deleting or hiding etc.)
- in the "Standard view" (tumbnails PLUS picture), several tumbnails can be selected together, BUT they cannot be deleted together, or Stars and Flags cannot be given to them, only the last selected file is deleted (or rated) etc. That is annoying, at least confusing! It does work though to delete and rate a whole selection of images in the "Tumbnail view" (tumbnails only) but it should be also possible in the "Standard View" - since multiple selections are possible there too!
COOL IMPROVEMENT:
- A GREAT IMPROVEMENT FOR A FUTURE VERSION would be implementing Makro recording (recording actions) in combination with Batch processing. This will be VERY helpful for the use of external editors (I am using NIK software plugins like external editors)! I am really looking forward to that functionality.
- Even though AfterShot's plugins have their great advantage, it would be really cool if PS plugins can be supported as well in the future.
SERIOUS BUG:
- it happens sometimes that ANOTHER picture is deleted than the one selected (in Standard View)! I may select one master file and delete it, but when I refresh the view (F5) or look into the recycle bean, I find ANOTHER image actually deleted! That is really serious! It happens especially, when I used an external editor just before. AfterShot Pro creates a new TIFF file, BUT it seems it does NOT fully update the tumbnail view. It seems to me that this is the cause that a wrong picture is deleted.
When AfterShot Pro asks if I am sure to delete that Master file, it may be helpful that the Program actually SHOWS the name, extension and even tumbnail of the file to be deleted!
I really do hope that someone of the developers reads this thread!!!!

Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions
- support of multiple(2) monitors
- choosing a category "secret", "hidden" or "private" for images, so that they are not included in slideshows etc., they may even require passwords and encryption/decryption
- "locking" of images and versions, so that they can't be deleted, moved etc. without being unlocked
- red-eye-removal
- PS plugin support (though I do LOVE AfterShot plugins)

Re: AfterShot Pro - Wishlist for future versions
- right now, very small images are shown ALWAYS enlarged because they are always FIT to screen, and no 1:1 view is possible for them, because it would be smaller than the screen! You should allow zooming even smaller than fit-to-screen!!!!
- the main window (for showing an image) should be maximized: the "Top Toolbar" could be combined with the main menu (File, Edit, View, Help | buttons of the Top Toolbar)
- at present, the mousewheel has TWO functions in the right panel: changing sliders AND scrolling up and down if the screen resolution is two small for showing the whole panel. This causes problems. Imagine I want to scroll ONLY: I will place the mouse pointer not on a slider so that I can scroll. It does scroll but only until a slider is suddenly under the mouse pointer and then the slider starts changing!!! So I end up editing my picture unvoluntarily! You should disbale the scroll function by mousewheel in the right panel!
- when using the "Full Screen" view, I have no possibility to directly minimize the window. I have to click first on the "Full Screen" button again and then on the "minimize" button. It would be cool to have a designated "minimize" button that is added automatically to the Top Toolbar when the Full Screen is activated.
- the "clipping warning" is confusing because its so different from all other software I know. Why all those colors (blue, red, green, yellow, cyan)? It should simply be BLUE for underexposed parts and RED for overexposed parts. that would be much more helpful. Or at least offer in the preferences a "simple clipping warning" (Blue/Red) and an "advanced clipping warning" (Blue/Red/Green/Yellow...) It could also be simply toggled by clicking a second time on the "clipping warning" button: 1. click: simple warning, 2. click: advanced warning, 3. warning OFF

is the solution for your first problem. Not drag and drop but not that difficult.
I checked, and i can add *** ratings with more images at the same time, also in the filmstrip view, so i dont know what is wrong there.
I think your cool improvement is already there. In presets, you can record/save several settings - for ASP the order does not matter - in batches, you can apply presets.

@Gerard2
Makro recording (or scripting) is something very different from presets! It would allow recording even what I do in external plugins/programs/editors!
and I can't say why it works on your system, to rate (delete) several pictures at once also in the Standard View. I am working on a Win7 64 System and there it does NOT work

oups, now suddenly it worked here too, no idea what was different, but after playing around a bit more, the bug returned, so sometimes I CAN delete (rate) more than one image at once in Standard view, sometimes not! I am always working in the "File System" (not a catalog). I also didn't change the folder. Its just sometimes possible, sometimes not, without any apparent reason!

Batch output and "open with"
I am using the Batch Output - "Open with" function to open my images in external editors or my Nik and Topaz plugins. Now ASP always opens the specified program for each image individually. Thats normally wanted and expected - but not always!!!
I need to open the specified external editor only ONCE and the images should be given all together as parameters to this program. (Example: Nik HDR should start only once and open several images together for HDR processing; unfortunately it is started for each image...)
WISH LIST:
ASP should offer a checkbox like the following in the Batch output setup:
[ ] open all images together in one instance of the program
or/and
[ ] open each image individually with the program

@nyukuri
If your external program can accept parameters (or a pre-prepared script/macro file) on loading then you you can include those when it is launched as part of an output batch. The ASP/Bibble users who also use ImageMagick have been doing that for some time (& no doubt others too). A search for discussion on ImageMagick here & on the Bibble Forums may give you some pointers in what you are already able to do.
The behaviour of an external program is dependent on that program & some don't work properly calling multiple files (or at least need careful setting of parameters). This is not a problem in ASP.
Rick.
