video zoom?

Post by sgraham »

I am on X4 and go back years with the program. I thought there was a feature to select only a part of the screen and be able to zoom on that on playback in the project. was this in an earlier version? I cannot find this feature in X4. I know I can do this for an image but want to do it for close ups in videos. thx

put the video in the timeline - click on the 'FX' just to the right of the preview screen. Scroll down to the bottom of the library pane and find the 'Video Pan and Zoom' filter, drag it down and drop it on the video. Click on the 'options' tab just above the right hand end of the timeline - when the panel opens choose 'Customise Filter' - this will open a settings window where you can put key frames and customise not only zoom amount but final zoom position.

thanks I see that filter but I am having trouble using it. It puts a fuzzy white glow around the video. Also, I understand how to add key frames but how do these affect the zoom?

Key frames allow you to set different properties at each key frame - so for instance you could zoom in a bit - stay still for a while - pan a bit - zoom in a bit more - all on the one video clip.

if you just have a key frame at each end the clip there will just be one long continual change from start to end - adding key frames allow for multiple actions during the clip, you simply add whatever key frames you need and set the zoom/panning you want at each position then VideoStudio gently morphs your video from one key frame to the next
