any ideas why the .WAV file is nothing but white noise when placed on timeline? Rendered as white noise also. plays ok in WMP or QT or VLC?

Ummm... you don't give us much to go on. Where did the .wav come from? Which version of Video Studio are you using? Normally, .wav files play perfectly in Video Studio as they are the rock standard of audio formats.
