incomplete burning VS9

Post by scoutmaster5 »

I am burning on a dual layer DVD. My computer is a P4 300 GHz with 1 GB RAM. There is plenty of space on the DVD and the hard drive for the burning (according to VS9). The burning stops at 95% and asks that I put in another disc or cancel the proces. Since I am burning multiple copies, I put in another disc and then get the following message:

“The target device might have some problems. Please try again or reboot.
(5209)”

Then this message appears when I open and close the DVD tray with the same DVD:

“Failed in performing power calibration. Error: DVD+R-SPTI-2A-02-03-73-03”

I tried out the DVD and it works correctly most of the time except when selecting some of the menus.

Any suggestions?

I just tried to burn the same project. This time I got a 5216 error message and an error: DVD+R-SPT1-02-04-09-04 Generic error from DC?DVD recording software. Please make sure the drive is ready and try again.

Please advise. These DL DVDs are not cheap.

You'll probably have to take that up with Tech Support.

Have you successfully used this brand of DL media in your burner before, and if so, using what program? Have you checked to see if there is updated firmware for your drive? One good place for locating firmware updates is RPC1.org.

Yes, I have successfully used this hardward on both DL and single layer media. Both with VS 9.

Since last using your burner successfully, have you by any chance installed a program such as Nero's InCD packet writer? If so, this might be the problem as it in effect commandeers control of the burner. I had a similar problem with my burner, but after I uninstalled InCD, the problem went away. I believe Roxio has a similar program to InCD as well.
