I have VS X3. I need to make a Blu-Ray out of a HD H.263 picture and a 5.1 AC3 track. I can make a DVD in 5.1 but not a Blu-Ray with my X#. Do I need to upgrade to VS X4? Does it output Blu-Ray Dolby 5.1?
Thanks
Steve

Re: Creating a Blu-Ray with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Track
Hi Steve
I do not use Bluray but am aware of the limitations of the default templates.
From Settings-- Make Movie Templates Manager allowed me to create a template using 5.1 Digital Dolby
MPEG Transport-Stream Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 25 fps
Upper Field First
(HDMV-PAL), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 20000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 3/2(L,C,R,SL,SR)
You do not give any details of your original video properties but sure you can create a suitable template.
Video Studio X3 does not contain an onboard authoring software, however Corel did provide DVD Movie Factory 7 SE to burn your discs.
However, I do not know if DVD MF7se supports DD 5.1
You could of course give the X4 trial a run.

Re: Creating a Blu-Ray with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Track
Hi Trevor,
Thanks for the reply. I got it while downloading a trial version of Sony Vegas Pro ($600.00 to buy)! I sure hopes your solution works.
My video is one I'm making using Power Point conversion software. I can create just about any format. I've found the best conversion is HD H.264 video 60fps. I then use VX3 to downres to mpeg4 60fps so I can do the sound on Pro Tools. After encoding the mix to AC3 I then want to marry the picture and sound to Blu-Ray H.264. The married presentation will play off of a memory stick through a Sony Blu-Ray player.
That said, a question: Why do you suggest 25 fps? Why not 24, 30 or even 60? (I'm a sound not video guy) Also, am I making a mistake making a 60fps master?
Please let me know any more info you need for me to create a template.
Thanks again for your help. Happy New Year.

Re: Creating a Blu-Ray with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Track
Hi Steve
I used the Make Movie Templates Manager to create a template using Digital Dolby 5.1.
The other settings were the default, I did not know the settings of your original video file.
The 25 fps is purely a Pal standard, you would use NTSC standards. (I didn’t know that at the time)
Create the template to the settings used to create the original video file using Power Point conversion software. What are they?, right click a video in the timeline and select properties???????
-------------------------------
With your original video file in the timeline, choose Share Create Video file.—if the option Same As First Clip is available then you should use that.
Also Using the Templates Manager the Add function should also work, simply browse for your video file to copy the properties.

Re: Creating a Blu-Ray with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Track
The good news is that it worked and created the file.
The bad news is that X3 crashed after rendering! Any clue why? Picture and track length were frame matched.
Thanks again for the help.

Re: Creating a Blu-Ray with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Track
Good evening
I had similar question approx 1 year ago;my post of Jan 2 2011 under "Creating Video Files"
I was then using vs x3Pro
I was successfull in burning a Bluray disk with dd5.1 track(burning module was mf7 SE)
See my reply dated Jan 5 2011 showing the result of my test
I today ran similar test ,using VS X4 Pro,creating template with Make Movie Template Managerwith the following attributes
MPEG Transport-Stream Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(HDMV-NTSC), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 20000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 3/2(L,C,R,SL,SR)

Re: Creating a Blu-Ray with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Track
Snowstorm and Trevor thank you so much!
I updated to X4 - very nice improvement all around. My 5.1 render worked first time.
A couple of questions if I may. Please keep in mind I'm a sound man.
There are a bunch of options in the "Template" "Compression" tab that I don't know what to do with: "Speed/Quality" (I set it to 100%)? Two pass encode" AVCHD? AVCREC? Should any of these be checked?
In X3 my AC3 track measured 43.02 in X4 it measured 43.03. How critical is the frame accuracy of picture to track in rendering a 5.1 HD? The reason I ask is when I down res my master to a file that will work in Pro Tools I lose a frame which I've make up when I cut the final mix. Do I need to do this?
Are there advantages/disadvantages in using 59.94 frames? The reason I ask is the program I use to make a movie of a Power Point presentation looks better when using 60fps.
Why does "Enable 5.1" have to be turned back on even if the project was save with it on? 16:9 stays checked.
Sorry for all the questions. I really appreciate the help.

Re: Creating a Blu-Ray with a Dolby Digital 5.1 Track
Hi Steve
A few answers but I don’t use HD video, just haven’t got around to upgrading to HD as yet.
Speed/Quality
This forces the encoder to shall we say be more through in its encoding. Time to render will increase, quality should be better, whether we can see the improvement is debatable. The default setting as 70/80% seems suitable for most. Some users always use 100%
The size of the rendered file will be the same.
--------------------------------
Two Pass Encode, yes I would use this option.
Video Format, whether you use Mpeg2 or H264 would depend on your original video properties.
As I say I don’t use HD so others may comment.
---------------------------
In X3 my AC3 track measured 43.02
Not sure I understand but if 43.02 is 43 seconds-02 frames then one frame difference will not be noticed.
The first frame is numbered 00-00-00-00, some other programs may show the first frame as 00-00-00-01
------------------------------------
"Enable 5.1"
After saving the project as a VSP the 5.1 should remain active/selected.
I have just tested this and the 5.1 remains selected after saving the project.
Only when starting a new project will you have to re-select, pity its not a global selection.
