I'm feeling like a bit of an idiot here - can't seem to get ffdshow to work with VS. Reading many pages of posts that refer to ffdshow, virtually none of them suggest there is anything to do beyond just installing ffdshow, so this would not seem to be a common issue. I found one old thread from 2008 where someone asked if VS asked if it should use ffdshow on startup, but I have never seen that prompt.
I have a brand new copy of VS Pro X4, I downloaded and installed ffdshow and Haali Media Splitter, but I have not made any configuration changes. Where do I go from here? Thanx.
ffdshow and VSX4 - how to enable?

In my set-up, ffdshow only shows up (so to speak!) when you select Custom > AVI as the output format. All the various formats which use the .avi wrapper are listed when you then click the Options button, and amongst them is ffdshow.

Hi
The ffdshow codec is related to AVI.
To render a video Share Create Video File – Custom—Choose Avi — Options the Avi tab -- Compression should list the ffdshow video codec.
You should be able to configure the settings

Re: ffdshow and VSX4 - how to enable?
Thanx for the quick replies - I, too, can see the ffdshow in that one specific place as you describe, but nowhere else. That's too bad, since I was hoping it would give me the ability to overcome the horrible limitations in VSX4 on saving files or creating high definition discs.
Apparently there is absolutely no way to write a 4GB 1280x720p video to a 4.7GB DVD with this product. Sad (and pretty dumb).

Is this a question? If you are making a statement of fact, you need to provide more information for me to agree. What you say here does not make sense... AlMauser wrote:Apparently there is absolutely no way to write a 4GB 1280x720p video to a 4.7GB DVD with this product. Sad (and pretty dumb).
