"MetadataMgr has stopped working" error, VideoStudio Pro X3

Post by jtech »

This is about the "MetadataMgr has stopped working" endlessly repeated error.

VideoStudio Pro X3 under Windows 7 (64-bit) has recently become unstable, and I get the "MetadataMgr has stopped working" endlessly repeating error. Corel's MetadataMgr.exe doesn't stop creating errors unless the PC is rebooted.

I uninstalled VideoStudio Pro X3 and then reinstalled it. The problem disappeared briefly, but came back next time I attempted to burn a DVD using VideoStudio Pro X3. So again I'm in MetadataMgr hell, with a video editing program that bombs. All patches on the Corel WWW site have been installed, with no affect on the problem.

I see that this has been discussed here before (Thread: Possible to use DVD Factory Pro 2010 w/o metadatamgr.exe?), and there is supposed to be a fix by deleting some directories somewhere. However, the explanation of what to delete itself has been deleted, so I'm clueless about the fix to this problem. How do I fix this problem? Please list the steps here for me and other users.

Have you ever taken up the option of installing Movie Factory 7 SE which was provided free by Corel to registered users of VS X3? It is far more stable, quicker and easier to use than the piece of cr*p Corel originally provided in the form of DVD Factory 2010, which everyone complained about. And it doen't operate with metadataMgr either... If you applied all the patches, one of them -- from memory, the second -- should have added a download link to MF 7SE to your Get More tab in the X3 Corel User Guide (small circle of dots with arrow up in the top right of the X3 screen...
