"Bonus Content" importation to library

Post by MikeB51 »

Hi Everybody and Happy New Year.
Sorry I haven't been around for a couple of years, stuck in the dark corners of depression, but there's finally a light. I've just purchased VS Pro X4 and installed it successfully (I think). My question is; the "Bonus Content" has been placed in the My Documents folder. If I remember correctly, (memory was affected quite seriously), I then import these into the library. What I'm not sure of is how to set things up to keep the subfolders in the library structure ie: There are three categories,Audio, Image and Video, then each of these has sub categories to organise the clips into subject. Is there any way to import and keep the structure intact. Sorry if it's obvious but I just can't work it out. Thank you All.

Hi Mike
and welcome back

The X4 library structure has changed a lot compared to the earlier versions, the default structure has one Sample page, you can switch on and off the Video, Photo and Audio views, simply hiding them.

There is the option to create extra library pages using the Add + this creates blank pages, give them a name, the blank pages have the three options.
To import any file type click the Import Media Files icon to the left, navigate the hard drive to locate your files, what you are importing is just a link a thumbnail representing your files.

There is also a Library Manager accessed via Settings, this will allow you to Export/Import the library, quite useful especially if you need to re-install and retain the libraries.
The reset option returns the library to its original installed state.
-----------------------------------------------
Along with the Bonus files should be a Contents file, if you haven’t already done so run this file to complete the VS installation.

The Bonus files have to be imported manually.

Thanks a lot Trevor. I'm pretty sure everything has installed ok. It just seems a little clumsy to have to just pile everything in the one folder or end up with a list of folders a mile long. To me it would make a lot better sense to be able to create main folders called Audio, Image and Video, and then add subfolders fo each category and put the actual files into each one. I just can't believe that it can't be done.
Thanks again,
Mike

OK. I've tried using the "Import Library" option it lets me then navigate to the libraries in "My Documents" folder. I select the library and the dialogue box lights up the OK button, so I then push that and I get the message "File import error: Uknown error, please check imported folder and make sure it is not empty." I've tried importing the whole library, the next level down, and the next level down from that and I just keep getting the same result.
Help please.

Hi Mike

Try this as a test

Create a new folder and save it to your Desktop
Add a few Images, just Jpeg types will do.

Open Video Studio,

Click the Add + option (top left of library), this will create a new library page, Give it a name.
With the library page open click the Import Media Files, navigate to the desktop and locate the new folder.
Select the images, then choose Open

Does that work?

------------------------------------

The library clips have to be a specific type, Videos, Images, Audio files, if you try it import other types then you will get an error.

Hi and thanks again Trevor. It worked fine, but what I was trying to do was to bring the folder in to try and keep the folder structure. I guess there is no way to do that?
Thanks again Mate.
