Hello - This is my first post:
My Flight Sim Fraps video is in 1920X1200 aspect but saving it in WMV I see it's in 14.9. How do I save in 16.9?
I'm new at this so I'd be grateful for simple English terminology!
Thanks. Terry.
Saving to 16.9 aspect.

Hi Terry
Welcome to the forums
1920 x 1200 is neither 16:9 or 14:9, I am guessing that this size is the size of your computers monitor resolution. A bit of an odd size for video.
Rendering to Share Create Video File – WMV choosing one of the HD options should create a video to 16:9. However this may either show a black border or distort the 1920 x 1200 to widescreen 16:9.
You can customise/create your own templates, try using the Make Movie Templates Manager.
Create a WMV profile—Customise--New
I have just tried and a template using 1920 x 1200 does not render correctly, playback being totally black?
I would use the standard WMV HD templates. I am assuming you are intending the video for YouTube or the like, so the WMV-HD 720 would produce a suitable file. !280 x 720

Re: Saving to 16.9 aspect.
Hello Trevor,
Thanks for your rapid reply!
I'm hoping to make a video using Fraps to record a flight over & around a WW2 airfield (RAF Ibsley) I've made for my MS Flight Sim 2004. Plans are afoot to rescue the old Control Tower & my video will be played in a room to show visitors what the airfield would have looked like during it's 6 yr service life in the edge of the New Forest. It's a huge lake right now as all the gravel's been excavated & the tower resides nearby.
I vividly remember hearing revving engines when I was about 4 or 5 & seeing aircraft on the taxiways from the top of the bus going to Bournemouth, hence my offer to make this video.
I'm not sure if it will or should go on a DVD or a hard drive.....I hope this helps?
I'm grateful for your help!

Hi Terry
If you are intending the final output to be DVD, would that be HD Bluray or Standard definition.
Standard definition DVD will use a frame size or 720 x 576 16:9.(Mpeg2) at some point your video will need rendering to this size.
If you want best quality and I assume you do I would capture using 25fps, with a widescreen aspect ratio of 16:9.
What video format are you able to capture to, Avi would be my choice but not sure about the compression, the files could be rather large but should give great quality. Fraps may capture to raw Avi and that’s 65gb per hour----Then convert to the output format?
Converting them to WMV may be ok for the internet but for a DVD they have to be Mpeg2 (720 x 576 x 25fps x 16:9)
Dorset is very nice, my sister lives in Weymouth so know the area reasonably well. We used to spend summers down there when the kids were younger, many an hour fishing of the pier.

Re: Saving to 16.9 aspect.
HelloTrevor,
Fraps saves in avi. The problem was only Windows Media Centre would play the files.
I asked questions on the fraps forum & was told to get this & that to render to a useable format, which is how I got VSPro yesterday, after surfing to see what's available. It's been years since I used my old Apple iMovie which was my next step. I was quite conversant with iMovie some time ago! Having Flight Sim though means having to have Windows & here I am.
FS2004 uses the monitor's native resolution hence I put 1920X1200! It a 24" widescreen & it's unnoticeable that the screenshot is slightly stretched to fill the monitor. I'm so used to seeing like this & it looks normal. I assume what video I can produce will be showing on wall-mounted wide screens.
Fraps captures at 25fps but I have FS9 in unlimited fps & full size to get smooth video I hope. On playback I see 60+ fps excpet when the scenery is very dense.
I'm playing around here at the moment learning as I go, but with input from folks like your good self.
RAF Ibsley is 2 miles north of Ringwood on the A338 & I live about 3 miles northwest. We're right on the edge of the New Forest.
Are you happy for me to PM you with a Control Tower link?
Cheers,,,,
