Hello Members
Just getting use to VideoStudio X4, and i'd liked it so much i purchased the 'Ultimate' version.
I thought i'd give the Boris Graffiti plugin a go, what i'm finding is that although i have Smart proxy enabled, the previews are still very stuttery with regards to only the clips that Boris G has been applied, i mean so much so that it's as if 'Smart proxy render' was in the off position for these particular parts or clips, has anyone found this to be an issue, or the case in point?
The second issue is with regards to the final rendering process, i have taken the original film clips, put them on the timeline rendered them as 'Same as first video clip', this is normally '1080 HD@29.9 fps MPEG 4 NTSC, Audio 128 bit',...and they playback near perfect.
But, edit the same video footage with transitions (especially heavy graphic types), FX effects (like using sepia tone across a piece of footage), then render in the 'Same as first video clip' format, and wherever any effects have been applied that particular part of the clip stutters ever so slightly as it plays through, it's minor, but when running comparisons between the original footage and the final rendered video it's noticeable, again do any members suffer, or notice this, or know what causes it?
I have tried all the render 'codecs' that are in VSx4, and they virtually all do this same effect on my footage other than DVD PAL@ 756x520, i don't think it's my original footage, or even the 'Codecs', but seems to me to be more the way transitions and effects are interpolated by the software in the final rendering, once again is there a simple answer to this?
Kind regards
Livio

Re: Boris Graffiti previews still stutter, more issues pleas
I found this posting...
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... r&start=15
..and a few others threads, all related to the same sort of problems, it seems to revolve around either how the 'Smart rendering' system is done, or runs, especially when the video contains 'transitions' and effects.
So, what is the benefit of having 'Smart rendering' on, as opposed to being off?, this is my understanding....
...if 'Smart Rendering' is on, it's only meant to render the start and end points of transitions, but if a video 'special effect' has been added, it will render the whole clip that's had the effect.
and if 'Smart Rendering' is off, i presume it renders the whole clip from start to finish, but if the 'quality' slider was set to 100%, i also gather this would mean there would be no compression, so the finished file quality would be exactly the same as the original footage taken by the camera.
Also, just another query please, i understand there is a 'Service Pack 2' for VideoStudio x4, does this include the 'Ultimate' version, as i noticed a popup offering me SP1 when i first opened the software shortly after installing, but was not 100% sure, it could have been SP2, where in the software would i look to check on this?
Any advice, or user experience would be grateful
regards

Re: Boris Graffiti previews still stutter, more issues pleas
Hi
Sorry I cannot help with Boris, I have the original X4 installed not the ultimate so do not have Boris.
Smart render “off” effectively renders every frame.
Smart Render “on” should render only frames that have been edited, transitions, filters applied etc.
Smart Render will only be affective when rendering like for like, Mpeg2 to Mpeg2 for instance.
Change the format from say Mpeg2 to WMV and SM is ineffective, all frames have to be converted.
Smart Render has been known to cause some problems, audio out of sync’ etc. Turn off SM and render again to see if problem is cured.
--------------------------------
The 100% quality option affects the efficiency of the encoder. The default of 70% ish is suitable to produce a quality finish, setting the quality to 100% will force the encoder to be more thorough in its conversion. Whether we can see the improvement is debatable. Render times will be longer.
--------------------------------
Compression quality, some types, Dv-Avi are known as lossless in that multiple renders does not reduce the quality.
Others ------- Mpeg2 is lossy in that multiple renders will eventually reduce the quality.
Generally our original video is only rendered once to produce the final output file so rendering quality reduction will not be noticeable.
------------------------------
Update Patches
Again I do not have the ultimate but am aware that the version number is different to the original X4.
The version number does update with applying the patches.
Click the orange icon top right—then click the cogwheel top right—“about” will give the version number.
Check for updates
To the top of this forum is a link to Patches and Updates—follow the link to download SP1 and 2
You may not need these, others running the Ultimate will confirm.
If you try to install the patches the process should indicate whether they are required, usually by refusing to install. Try SP-1 first
