I have just installed VSx4. I successfully made a project, and saved it, but when I go to the 'Share' stage, I cannot burn a DVD. All the steps complete, including preview, but when I click Burn the screen freezes at commencement, showing 3% complete and 'converting title'. Only the Cancel button appears active, but clicking on it yields no result. I noted that the DVD writer line on the menu, despite showing correct information, appeared greyed out. To exit the program and abort, I have to use Windows Task manager, which then tells me the program is waiting for a response from me - but there is no menu or screen I can find of this nature. I have to force closure with Task Manager.
I would appreciate any advice from the forum.

how long do you wait at the 'converting title' stage before you try to stop it - this stage can take several minutes, (like 5 or so) is there any activity on your hard drive during this time ?

I have waited over 30 minutes. No sign of activity.

Hi Dave
Return to the edit timeline and render the project to a single video file using compliant DVD Mpeg2 settings.
I assume you are trying to burn a standard dvd.
Share Create Video file – DVD will create a suitable file, however knowing your original video files properties will help in choosing the correct settings.
If this is successful, start a new project-Share Create Disc-Add video file, (adding the new file) the final burn process should not "Convert title" as you ar using a compliant video file. The process should start with Convert Menu.
If the render fails, then check the content of your project for faulty/corrupt files.

I'm not sure if its updated already but just incase you may want to check if you have an updated Direct X.

Re: VSx4 won't burn DVD
Using the technique of first rendering to a video file worked, so my problem seems to be answered. I am still bemused as to why the Burn to Disc straight from the project does not work, though.

Hi
The process to create a video file first has been used since the beginning of video editing.
At one time that was the only option……..
Improvements in the editing process allowed us to add a project VSP to the burner module.
All well and good till it fails, then the recommendation is to revert to the original workflows, to create a Mpeg2 file first is used
If that process fails then we can investigate the projects content, trying to identify the problem.
-----------------------------------
I and many users always create a video file first, maybe it’s a case of cannot teach an old dog, or maybe its just a proven approach.
Either way the time to complete the whole process will be the same.
But why it should fail in the first place is as you say bemusing.
