Pasting text from another program

Post by dscoyne »

In Video Studio X3, it seems impossible to paste text copied from another program onto a Title page. I want to do this since I have 16 stanzas of poetry that I want to insert, each on its own page, or story board. If I am not correct, does anybody know how to do this?

If in fact I cannot paste text, is there a format that I can use to save each stanza on a page separately in another program that I can import into one part of this program? Maybe in a particular file extension as a snapshot, video, etc.?

It would seem ridiculous to not be able to import a text document. Do I have to type everything out from scratch?

Thanks........Don

What method are you using to Paste? I use the keyboard method of Ctrl+C to copy the text elsewhere, then Ctrl+V to insert it in X4's Title timeline. That always seems to work, though some users from countries with significantly different alphabets have had trouble getting special characters etc pasted.

Using the mouse method (right click Copy and right click Paste) does not work in VS.

I have used Ctrl-C to copy text and Ctrl-V to paste into a Title without any problems including many character accents such as (French) grave, acute, circumflex and (German) umlauts. In fact I found this easy when I wanted to place a title which was a place name and contained characters with such accents (did a 'Google search' for the place name, highlighted the word, Ctrl-C then Ctrl-V in the title area in VS4 - no problems!

just to add - when you paste using ctrl+V you must first double click in the preview screen when in titling mode to get the cursor flashing - then you should have no problem.

Exactly! Which, obviously, is what I was trying to do. Since this is a Windows program, it is strange that only one of two well-used methods should work. There should at least be some documentation regarding this. I wasted a lot of time trying to research how to get this done, it not occuring to me that one method would work when the other did not.

Thanks much to all of you who came up with the right answer!

Wow
I learned something tonight
(right click Copy and right click Paste)
. I never knew that the right mouse did this (in non VS programs :-) ). Obviously this 'feature' has been around for many years (as I use Windows XP) and yet I (who used to be a programmer/analyst and worked with heaps of IT people) have NEVER seen anyone use the right mouse to copy/paste.

John -- you may have noticed I was referring to 'significantly different alphabets' above. I wasn't really referring to the 'usual' Western European languages and their accent marks. I was referring more to central or Eastern European marks which, if using a Latin alphabet, have some strange diacritical accent marks, or even a different alphabet (e.g. Cyrillic), not to mention Asian languages.

Not sure if I go along with that Ken as I was able to cut (from a web page) and paste (to a VS4 Title) some Mandarin (Asian characters) as well as a mixture of English AND Mandarin characters on the same line without any problem.

I was also able to cut and paste Turkish and Arabic characters -

But there probably are some little used characters which may not cut and paste.
