I have recently upgraded from VS11 to Pro X3. However when attempting to play clips in timeline, X3 crashes.
Playing 'project' works fine.
OS is Vista.
Help appreciated.

Re: Videostudio Pro X3 - Playing Clips
Hi Owen, welcome to the forums!
Unfortunately, you haven't given us much to go on. In particular, we need to know exactly what the format of the video is that you are working with. Look up towards the top of this forum, and you will see a sticky thread labelled -- indicatively -- Please Read This Before Posting. It will tell you the sort of information we are after. Get back to us with that, and I hope someone will be able to help.

Re: Videostudio Pro X3 - Playing Clips
I have now added the system information requested by Ken.
The video format being used is a .trp extension file. This file was then 'split by scene'.
When the project is opened in VS X3, and attempting to play a clip (scene), X3 crashes (closes down). Playing the project is OK.
However when opened in VS V11, the clips can be played successfully.
Apologies for not posting system info, but in view of the above I suspected it was a software issue.

Re: Videostudio Pro X3 - Playing Clips
The problem seems to be that .trp is a fairly unusual extension. It is transport stream mpeg, though I am not absolutely sure whether it is mpeg-4 or mpeg-2 high def. But am I correct in assuming it comes from some sort of TV capture card???
A more usual transport stream extension would be .ts or even .tp. I am surprised that VS even recognises it enough to play it in project mode. It is not among the formats that VS is supposed to recognise natively. I think you need to first convert it into a more recognisable mpeg format. If you do a simple Google search for "trp format" there are a variety of programs recommended. I am not sure if the one we normally recommend -- SUPER -- will work with it.
Can you right click on one of the trp files in the VS timeline and copy ALL its properties here, please. That way we might have a better idea of exactly which format we are dealing with.

Hi Owen
Looking at your video properties, other than the reference to Transport Stream I would have expected the file to be a standard definition Mpeg2
You don’t give the bit-rate (Data Rate) but from the duration and size I would guess 4000kbps ish
You could try re-naming the files to use MPG as the extension to see if VS handles the file?

Re: Videostudio Pro X3 - Playing Clips
Thank you for your assistance.
I have now converted the .trp file to MPEG2 using Any-Video-Converter. Not great quality to OK to test this issue.
I then imported it to VS X3, slip by scene, and then successfully played a clip.
I am now satisfied that the .trp file was the issue, and will investigate the converter 'SUPER' as mentioned by Ken in the hope it can deliver a better quality MPEG2.
Thanks again.

Hi Owen
When I said (You could try re-naming the files to use MPG as the extension to see if VS handles the file?)
I meant just that, renaming the files using Windows Explorer.
Right click a file and select re-name changing the extension from .trp to .mpg
Sometimes this option is enough for VS to recognise the video files correctly.
If that did not work then try re-coding using Super.

Re: Videostudio Pro X3 - Playing Clips
Hi Trevor,
Yes I did try changing the filename but it gave me 'filename.trp.mpg' and did not solve the problem. Sorry I did not mention that in my response.
Have now used SUPER successfully, and all is OK. I will just have to go through this conversion prior to work in VS X3.
Thanks for your interest.
Regards,
Owen
