.CPT Duplicate File Finder

Post by Ian Green »

Can anyone please let me know of any software that is genuinely capable of finding duplicates of .CPT files.

I have a few thousand of them on my hard drive and need desperately to clear out the dupes.

Thank you

If you have Corel Draw X5, you can use the Corel Connect Application. But you still need to manually check and delete any duplicate images.

Here's the description of the application.
Corel CONNECT lets you find content on your computer, local network, the Corel content DVD, or online. You can browse or search for clipart, photos, fonts, symbols, objects, and even file formats that are not supported by CorelDRAW Graphics Suite. When you find the content that you need, you can import it into your document, open it in its associated application, or collect it in a tray for future reference.

Since CPT is a Photo-Paint file format, it will surely support and be able to view/open CPT files.

If you do not have the Corel Draw X5, you can download the trial at corel.com or just click here.

Thank you for that info, but as I don't have X5 and I get loads of .CPT files sent to me, the use of the Trial Version would be of no good as the trial would expire afdter 30 days.

I shall keep hoping that someone will know of a clever bit of software somewhere, and come to my rescue.

Thanks anyway,

Ian

Thanks but I've tried DFF and find it unreliable, and generally incapable of the analysis required to tell if a duplicate actually exists in .CPT format.

Hi Brianofen,
Could you perhaps provide a bit more info please.
Publisher, web-site address, full programme name perhaps.

Sounds interesting though.

Many thanks,

Ian

A simple google search for "duplicate files deleter" will give you the answer. That is what the program is called. A version 5.4 was released last month.

No, a simple Google search for "duplicate filesdeleter" WILL NOT and DID NOT produce the required answer.
In fact it returned ----
EasyDuplicateFinder
DuplicateFiles Freeware
Free Duplicate Remover
Duplicate File Deleter
Free Duplicate File Finder
--- and, and, and.

None of which, in their summary, indicated ANY relationship to .CPT files.

I asked the question because I was looking for a realistic .cpt duplicate file finder.
I asked the further question, of brianofen, because IF someone is using the appropriate software, then it would be nice to know the EXACT product, as opposed to the somewhat airy fairy approach suggested by yourself.

Thank you for your suggestion, but I need an answer with a level of accuracy greater than that proposed in your reponse.

Well, I don't know how you entered the search, but I simply put in "duplicate files deleter" into Google, and it came up with numerous answers, the very first of which was http://duplicatefilesdeleter.com/ Another one gives this link and refers to the version 5.4 I mentioned -- though I see from the first link there is now a trial version 5.6: http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/Fil ... -DDF.shtml So if that is not accurate or is in your view airy fairy, then I think you are very much mistaken.

I should also add that this is not a Board which deals with Corel Paint. There is a separate board dealing with the DRAW family of products. But I will let you do your own Google search for that one.

Well, it would appear that my doubts about the FilesDeleter product were well founded.

I contacted Tech Support for "FileDeleter", and -----
......................................................................................................
Original Enquiry
Could you please let me know if your duplicate files deleter programme can deal with Corel “.CPT” files in a true comparison method, and not just relative to file size and/or name.

Thank you,

Ian

Response
Hello Ian

Yes, it can
......................................................................................................
I then downloaded and installed the programme.

As can be seen from the attached .jpg, (screen shots), on the first pass, where there were three files with exactly the same content, but where two of them were
identical in size, FileDeleter only managed to recognise the identical files.

I created another file (Architect etc.) and enlarged it in relation to the other two files, but again FileDeleter failed to examine the content, and returned only the identical files.

I am assuming the programme is working only on the CRC checksum, and not really examining the file/content structure.

So, not only does the programme fail to handle the .CPT files as required, but the Technical Support persons have provided misleading information.

Yes I agree with Ian Green. What I use and has very nice advanced filtering is the duplicate file finder by MindGems - it is free for duplicate files and has PRO version that can fin similar files. They develop such tools more than 10 years and provide high quality. I recommend also the free Folder Size tool and duplicate image finder. You will receive also very nice and competent support from those guys.

Hi Jackdorsey

I agree with you re Mind Gems, as I use their Visual Simiarity File Finder, and it is remarkably good.

Unfortunately the finding of .CPT files can not be done with this programme and, having spoken with their friendly Tech Guys, it is unlikely it ever will as Corel (typically) provide no support for developers.

Hi Ian
Maybe I missed your point. You can use the duplicate file finder tool to find ANY type of duplicate files. It can identify 100% identical files for FREE and similar files in the PRO version (paid). Unfortunately filtering is available in the pro version (duplicate finder feature matrix), but if your .cpt files are in a separate folder you will not need to filter them by type. FDFF does not work in the way that the duplicate image finder works, but if your files are 100% identical and you do not need to search for similar images then it will do the job for you.

Here you can read about the differences between these tools: duplicate finder comparison

If you decide to go for the PRO version you have to add *.cpt in the file extensions list and switch the mode to "Include only matches". See the filtering window here:duplicate finder screenshots
This will tell the program to compare only .CPT files.

I hope this helps.

Hi Jackdorsey

Many thanks for trying to sort this problem, but it is the "similarity" aspect which is important to me.

That is why Vis Sim is so good, as I can find a duplicate picture even though the duplicate is larger/smaller, brighter/darker etc., but as I say ----- it will not do this with .CPT files.
