Tiled image instead of text along a vector?

Post by cleasterwood »

Hi,
I'm hoping there is a way to do this, but I haven't figured it out yet. What I'm trying to do is similar to putting text along a vector line, but I want to use an image that is tiled horizontally instead of text. I don't want the image to be tiled both horizontally & vertical, instead I want it to curve with the vector line like text does so that it looks like lace, either above or below the line, NOT along it.
Is this possible in PSPX4?
Thanks in advance for help.

No. You can fake it but it's not the same thing you're looking for.

Corel does not have that as an option with its vectors. Only text can follow a vector path. And you can fill a vector with any open image but I believe those are wold based coordinates so it does tile both horizontally and vertically and does not bend with the vector at all.

If you want to create that kind of effect in PSP it is possible, but it takes a lot of work on your part to bend and manipulate the pattern like you want.

It would probably be easier with a script of some sort but I have never run across one that will do what you're looking for. There is one that will have the paint brush or picture tube tool run along the path of a vector but that's about it.

So long story short, it can be done but not easily and I'm of no help whatsoever for figuring out how to get it done the best way. I suppose depending on your curve a mixture of the warp mesh, multiple layers, and a small bit of blending would work. But that is just a guess.

You might be able to get something like that to work by using Cassel's Directional Tuber script (for sale on her site) along with the Vector Tube script (free). The trick would be getting the bits of lace to go around a curve without looking odd. You'd have to design the bits so that they don't have square corners. You would also have to save the segment as a Picture Tube. Cassel's script creates a tube that rotates based on the direction you move your cursor. The Vector Tube script makes the tube of your choice follow a vector path. I haven't tried using them both together to create the sort of effect that you want but that was one reason why I bought Cassel's script. I just haven't had a chance to give it a try with lace. I don't think that there's any way to make the tube go either outside or inside the vector path though. It does pretty much stay on the path. Would that really matter though since you can hide the vector path when you're done?

Here's a quick and dirty example of how it might look. I used Cassel's script to make the little tatted loop into a directional tube, created a vector elipse and ran the Vector Tube script on it:

Cassel is a member here so hopefully she'll chime in. I'm sure she's done this sort of thing before.

LeviFiction,
Thanks. :) That's a bit more work than I want to do.

LindaSue,
I saw that script, but wasn't sure if it'd work. Your post helps me see that it does look like it would work, but I can't really get any scripts right now; the holidays drained my pocket & there's more of Cassel's scripts I'd like to get. I'd be more interested in an all-in-one (if it's even possible), but I can't write scripts to save my life. For now, I guess I'll have to do the lace in my other program & then import the png into PSPX4.
Thank you,
