Can These "Free" Effects Be Used Within VideoStudio?

Post by mrbobbell »

Happy Holidays, all!

I use VS Pro X4 (not Ultimate).

I'm going to ask a question about a razzle-dazzle effects element that I know absolutely nothing about. Before I get in over my head, I'm hoping someone can clear away my mental fog.

I do not own the Adobe After Effects software, but I've been enticed by the "free" (after US$8.43 shipping) templates offered by FootageFirm.com as they state at their site; "Easy to use templates for AE users and non AE users alike!"

One example would be http://www.footagefirm.com/free-fun-templates.html

The description specifically states: "This collection contains 5 customizable After Effects templates, and 5 flattened .MOV clips for customers who do not use AE. FOR NON AE USERS: There are Photo JPEG QuickTime versions of the clips included for customers who do not use After Effects. In most cases, green screens have been included in areas where the modifiable graphics were. Simply overlay your own text, or key out the green elements."

Has anybody tried to use those flattened .MOV clips from the Non-AE templates within a VideoStudio project? If not, does it sound plausible that the Photo JPEG QuickTime versions of the clips could be incorporated into a VS Pro X4 project? If so, are there any tutorials showing how to use the clips?

Many thanks in advance,
Bob

It'd be pretty tough to make any of those projects work with Corel VideoStudio, unless it was a regular overlay. If any of the video was moving at all, you'd have to track your images to the video provided in the download, which the prerendered version just isn't built for.

Take for example this project. The pre-rendered elements are the light streaks and the optical flare. The video boxes aren't pre-rendered. So while you'd be able to sort of recreate the project, it'd be pretty tough. Some places will customize projects for you though for a reasonable price.

I have tried a couple FootageFirm.com “free” DVDs. Paid the shipping. I have After Effects CS5 but I’m only a novice user. The AF projects work as advertised and make great intros to VideoStudio Pro projects (I now have X5 Ulitimate). They definitely add a professional look to my mostly amateur efforts.

I did notice MOV files that came with each AE project. They were called Flattened MOV Green Screen.mov and Flattened MOV Blank.mov. Apparently these allow non-AE potential uses through overlays. However, I haven’t tried the non-AE stuff. Some of the AE stuff I have tried is quite stunning and relatively easy to use.
