Sorry if this has been answered before, I've tried the search function and I didn't found any topic that could help me on this issue.
I have videos from my camera at 1440x1080, and after I edit them on Videostudio x4, when I save them (using MPEG4HD or AVCHD for example), the resulting file size is larger than the original. So I decided to use an encoder such as Xvid for reducing the file size. I choose avi as the output format and then in the options I set the resolution to 1440x1080 (not listed in the standard combobox, btw) and choose Xvid as the encoder (also tried ffdshow). But the resulting video is a smaller picture with a big black border instead. Am I missing something?
1080 avi or other formats... black border?

For better illustrate my issue, here is an example. The top image is the original video, and at the bottom is the xvid converted video:

What am I doing wrong? The xvid video is obviously smaller (both screenshots are taken at the same window scale), and also adds these frames. The frames I guess are because the encoder tries to make the resulting video to fit the 4:3 ratio, but I don't understand why also scales down the video
